Holly Andreatta, the most recent mayor of Lincoln, California, is getting well-deserved criticism after she delivered a speech to high school students telling them her daughter is gay as a result of childhood trauma, rejecting the notion of church/state separation, and disparaging Martin Luther King, Jr.

The speech was made to Club America, a high school chapter of Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA, at Twelve Bridges High School.

Lincoln Mayor Richard Pearl pointed out that Andreatta attended the meeting as a private individual, not a city representative. “She did a significant disservice to her community and to herself in her remarks to the Club America and I stand in opposition to those remarks,” he said in a statement. “I want to be clear: I do not agree with the opinions expressed by my fellow council member,” Vice Mayor Whitney Eklund echoed.

The Placer County Democratic Party denounced Andreatta’s comments, saying in a statement that they “were harmful to the students who listened to her and perpetuate harm to communities throughout Placer County.”

The myth that trauma affects one’s sexual orientation is stigmatizing; the concept of separation of church and state is not only real, but a foundational principle of the nation; and the lie that safety standards have been lowered to hire more people of color undercuts the hard work of millions, the statement said.

Also, just to correct something: Andreatta is NOT mayor, but a councilperson.

For the better part of the last 30 years, Holly taught in private and public schools including the last 14 years teaching U.S. history and government at Cooley Middle School in Roseville.

Holly is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and she and her husband, Mark, are associate pastors at Lincoln Christian Life Center. She is often invited to speak and teach at various women’s events and other venues. Holly and her husband have been married for 30 years and have four grown children. Mark teaches high school and is also an ordained minister. She’s proud of all four of her children, each of which are busy creating impact in unique ways!
