One way everyone can take action and make a difference easily is by boycotting companies that support Trump and Republicans.
I prepared a list of some companies that you can boycott. This isn't an inclusive list but every single one I believe is likely that at-least some of the people reading this are able to take action on. If you have other companies that you think are important please let everyone know!
For boycotts to be successful it's important as many people do it as possible so please tell urge everyone possible to boycott these companies. Also for any right-wing donor try contacting the company and expressing your strongest disapproval for the contributions. It may discourage them from making more donations in the future. This will also help because it's important that the company knows it's being boycotted and knows why they are being boycotted and what the demand is to end the boycott. In this case the demand should be halting donations to Republicans.
First I'll start with the single most important boycott you can do: Elon Musk's companies. A neo-Nazi worth over $600 billion dollars is not good, it's terrifying so urgent action is needed.
Here's how you can act on each of Musk's companies:
Twitter/X: stop using your account. You should "park" your account because Twitter will recycle unused usernames unfortunately. This is also a good way to promote alternatives to Twitter such as Bluesky or whatever platform you choose if you migrate somewhere else after stopping using Twitter. I personally am very passionate about Bluesky and believe it's an excellent replacement for Twitter so I urge everyone to register for Bluesky and urge as many friends and family to register as well. Also consider contacting companies, organizations and institutions who are on Twitter and urge them to switch to Bluesky. Also whenever possible share links to Bluesky instead of Twitter and if you must share a Tweet either use a screenshot instead of linking to it or better yet use a tweet viewer such as xcancel.com or nitter.net just by replacing x.com with one of the Tweet viewers.
Tesla: Simple: don't buy the car. The door handles are dangerous, they are a death trap if you get into an accident and you can't open the door. The mechanical fallbacks are hard to find and in a high stress and emergency situation every second counts and not everyone knows about the emergency releases so people have sadly died some even burning alive in Tesla cars. To my knowledge other brands of EVs do not have this problem because they have standard door handles and also better quality control meaning the chances of them catching on fire is a lot less.
If you already own a Tesla cancel any subscriptions you're paying to the company and turn off all data sharing. If you have free charging intentionally use Tesla chargers instead of charging at home which costs you money. If you don't have free charging try to charge at home as much as possible but be sure to protect the battery. Try preventing it from going below 20% and charge to around 80% to make the battery last as long as possible.
This might sound paradoxical but if you already own a Tesla I urge you to take very good care of it because I would rather someone buy a used Tesla instead of a new one so a strong used market helps deter new sales.
Starlink: Support fiber/internet infrastructure legislation so you can get a wired/fiber connection to your home so you don't need satellite internet. Consider if you don't have internet coming to your home through some type of wire or fiber consider seeing if you could get 5G internet. This is cheaper and faster than Starlink and you would not be supporting Elon Musk. Invest in competitors to Starlink and give them encouragement when relevant.
SpaceX and Boring Company: These two are harder to boycott but there is a solution: invest in SpaceX's and Boring Company's competitors and encourage them to beat these companies.
Now on to some other companies:
Uline: they are a big mega-donor to Republicans but they are also overpriced compared to competitors. They are used a lot because they are good at marketing. They send their catalogs out to everyone hurting the environment with all that paper wasted, they put their logo on so many of their products and they basically bribe employees to order from them creating a conflict of interest where if you work for a company people could be ordering from Uline even though the price is higher and less quality because employees want to receive the gifts. The gifts are given directly to employees who order from Uline instead of to the company.
If you do purchasing for a company I urge you to look at alternatives to Uline. You may save your company or the company you work for a ton of money by switching away from Uline and end up looking like a real hero for doing so!
The website https://refuseuline.com/ has information on Uline and a list of alternatives. It's not a complete list and they haven't fully vetted all the companies to ensure they are not also right-wing donors but I'm almost certain any of the companies in the list are going to donate a lot less at minimum to right-wing causes.
Hobby Lobby: Do you like arts and crafts? Great, but please try getting your supplies from somewhere else because these people donate so much to far-right causes. In fact this article: https://www.propublica.org/article/inside-ziklag-secret-christian-charity-2024-election shows some of the evil Hobby Lobby, Uline and also a company called Jockey apparel corporation support.
Spotify: If you pay for a Spotify subscription you're supporting right-wing propagandist and serial liar Joe Rogan. According to https://apnews.com/article/joe-rogan-spotify-deal-76fa0e2c9d4b137f510428528ea6226b Spotify gave Rogan $250 million yet they hardly pay their artists anything.
I urge everyone to cancel their Spotify subscriptions and if you must use Spotify please use the free tier and use it in a web browser instead of the app and use an ad blocking plugin such as uBlock Origin.
Oracle: This is the company that ruined Sun. Larry Ellison is a huge right-wing donor and his son Dave Ellison is buying up media companies in order to turn them into right-wing propaganda machines. It's kind of hard to boycott them since they are mostly B2B but you can urge your local politicians to never give them any contracts, and if you work for a company that's looking at software try steering them away from Oracle.
Skydance, Paramount and CBS and anything else owned by Dave Ellison: And on the topic of the Ellisons I bring you my next item on my boycott list. This one you can cancel your Paramount+ subscription. I don't know if Skydance and CBS have subscriptions but if they do cancel them too! For CBS News contact them here: https://help.cbsnews.com/s/contactsupport and urge them to retain independence and tell the truth instead of becoming a propaganda channel.
Amazon: Jeff Bezos has funded Trump's inauguration and paid a lot of money way more than anyone should for a documentary about Melania Trump. The solution is to cancel your Amazon Prime subscription and try finding alternative websites when possible. You might even save money or get a higher quality product by not shopping on Amazon. For cases where Amazon is the only choice just wait until your cart gets above $25/$35 and order then with free shipping. Also Amazon Prime recently added ads to their movies so this is another reason to cancel your prime subscription.
British American Tobacco: I'm not sure if many people know this but they donated over $10 million to Trump. If you smoke well ... I don't want to lecture you or tell you what to do but the truth is everyone has known for a long time it can cause lung cancer so maybe now's the time to quit if you feel up to it. Or if not maybe smoke a different brand.
ABC Supply: They have roofing supplies. If you use ABC Supply look for a different company to get your roofing supplies from. Maybe you'll even save money.
Cantor Fitzgerald: Another mega donor. Howard Lutnick was chairman of this company. He has financially benefited from the harm caused by Trump's tariffs because of the way they have investments setup. Bill Ackman who's another rightwing donor actually called him out on this by saying "He and Cantor are long bonds. He profits when our economy implodes. Its a bad idea to pick a Secretary of Commerce whose firm is levered long fixed income. Its an irreconcilable conflict of interest.". If you use this company try looking at alternatives. Maybe you can find something better.
Citadel: Donating a shocking amount of over $108 million to Republicans in 2024 Ken Griffin CEO of Citadel is a huge donor. But yet it seems he hasn't gotten his money's worth considering in an interview he correctly said that If you think of your behavior as a consumer, how many times do you buy a product with a brand on it because you trust that brand? ... In the financial markets, no brand compares to the brand of the US Treasuries the strength of the US dollar and the strength and creditworthiness of US Treasuries. No brand came close. We put that brand at risk.. He's actually 100% right here but yet he's one of the people who are most responsible for the tariffs and all the damage Trump is doing to the economy by donating so much to Republicans who are spineless and refuse to stand up to Trump even though his policies are like suicide for our country. I really hope Ken won't donate anything in the future.
This list isn't nearly complete but it's just some of the companies I'm aware of. Again I'll say please if you know of more to boycott please do tell!

It seems the company hasn't made any political contributions that I could see, all are from individuals instead of from the organization. I don't like that they spend so much on lobbying.
Tim Cook did do that nonsense "award" for Trump though, honestly I think it just makes Trump look kind of weak in a way though so I don't really know what to think about Apple. If you want to boycott them that's good!

(116 posts)I agree with you, there comes a certain point where if you try to boycott everything it will be impossible to function normally. I think people should pick their battles and focus on doing what they can and focus on the worst of the worst. I think Tesla Takedown was successful because it was focused and dedicated.

(54,411 posts)The Goods Unite Us list is absolutely riddled with errors. It cherry-picks data and also conflates individual employees with the firms themselves, so if some people working for a firm give to Rethugs, the entire firm is black-listed by the list, which is dodgy AF in terms of methodology.
Here is an older DU OP with the same list
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219776816 (notice that the YT video for that one has been taken down as it was misinformation)
here are my replies from that DU thread:
I looked up Urban Outfitters and the record does not back up the YT video claims for 2020, 2022, and 2024.
And yes, it is individuals, not the firm itself.
https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/urban-outfitters/totals?id=D000030711

That app is cherry picking old data from OpenSecrets.
Paul Ryan has not run since 2016, for example.
In the last 3 cycles, 2020, 2022, and 2024, the vast majority of contributions from individuals at Urban Outfitters have went to Democratic candidates.
Also, it is problematic to cast blame on entire companies in general for the actions of some of their employees.
I am sorry, but I am going to have to give a hard pass to that app that list, and that video.
Cheers,
Cel
It actually is not, see my replies in this thread. The information is cherry picked and misleading.
I hope my years here on DU exposing corporate abuse and skulduggery lend some legitimacy to my call-out. I am absolutely not a corporate shill type, but I also do my due diligence, and this list is not something I feel is accurate and/or reliable enough to label firms with based solely upon what it says.

(66 posts)I've tried off and on for years to find a Uline alternative that carries the specific items that I need for shipping. I've never had success. If anyone can recommend a company with a similar range of shipping supplies, please pass the information along. Thanks!

(116 posts)Would you be comfortable telling everyone here what shipping supplies you buy? That could help me or someone find an alternative for you if we knew more about what you're buying.

(66 posts)The ones that I haven't been able to find other places are 1/2" x 16" x 250' bubble wrap and 20" x 20" x 24 " double wall cardboard boxes. Not a fan of bubble wrap, but it's the only material that adequately protects our products for shipping... Thanks for any help!
BoycottTwitter
(116 posts)So I looked at Uline's website and there are different types of bubble wrap with the same dimensions. They have perforated and non perforated and also economy and "strong" bubble wrap. Could you please post the model number of the bubble wrap and also the box if I got the wrong one?
For the box I'm pretty sure it's S-21533, is that right? I'll admit this one does seem kind of rare.
Here's what I found:
This is the same dimensions but the website uses a different order:
https://www.packagingprice.com/24-x-20-x-20-double-wall-boxes-bundle-of-10/
Uline is LxWxH which I'm guessing you used. This website has the height specified first so both boxes are 24 inch tall and 20 inches in the other dimensions. The price is a little lower at $91.08 per 10 vs Uline's $100.8 per 10 but Uline has better price breaks if you're ordering a huge quantity of boxes. I will note however for Uline the 10 boxes weigh 51 lbs whereas here the pack of 10 weighs 44.6 lbs. I don't know if that means a different in quality. I think it's very important we find something that's equal or better in quality and price because it wouldn't make sense to ask someone to pay more for boxes and if the quality is worse it could raise the rate of customer returns which I'm sure would not make up for any amount of savings on packing materials because this is about your reputation.
https://www.ucanpack.com/20x20x24-doublewall-corrugated-boxes.html
This one is $124.46 per pack of 10 which is a much worse price but it's 1/3" thick instead of 1/4" thick but like the one I linked above it's a 48 ECT rated so I'm unsure about strength, maybe it's not stronger. Surprisingly despite being a thicker box the weight of 10 boxes is even less at 42.00 lbs. One thing to keep in mind despite a higher price it could work out to be cheaper if another company charges a lot less for shipping. I highly recommend when looking at alternatives to add everything you need to your cart and letting it calculate the shipping to see what the total amount would be.
https://www.packagingsupplies.com/products/24-x-20-x-20-double-wall-boxes
This one is not the same size but the price is a lot better. It's 20 inches tall and one of the sides of the box is 24 inches. I don't want to suggest rotating your product in-case that would increase the odds of damage during shipping but I thought I would share this anyway in-case you find it interesting.
I didn't look at bubble wrap much yet because I found out Uline had different types and I wanted to exactly match it.

(66 posts)I think that I will be able to find what I need on their site. The bubble wrap and 20x20x24 box were the most difficult to find, and they have both. I really appreciate your help!

In August 2022, T-Mobile and SpaceX announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration to integrate Starlink satellites with licensed spectrum to serve conventional phones. Since then, T-Mobile has positioned DTC as a coverage enhancer, not a replacement for terrestrial 5Gideal for wilderness, rural roads, national parks, and emergency communications.

AT&Ts Satellite Strategy: Partnering with AST SpaceMobile
AT&T is pursuing satellite-to-phone via AST SpaceMobile, a separate provider building a constellation designed to connect directly to everyday smartphones over licensed spectrum. The approach mirrors the core DTC ideayour regular handset, your normal number, no external antennawhile integrating with AT&Ts core network functions and roaming logic.

Verizons Path: Also Teaming with AST SpaceMobile
Verizon has aligned with AST SpaceMobile as well, including investment and technical collaboration intended to extend coverage in remote geographies without building out costly terrestrial sites. The aim is competitive parity with satellite-enabled messaging first, followed by carefully managed data and, eventually, voicesubject to capacity, device support, and regulatory milestones.

(116 posts)I think the most important thing is trying to cancel Prime. Do you need the expedited shipping or can you wait until your cart is above the free shipping threshold (usually $25 or $35) and then use free shipping without Prime?
Amazon Prime is ultimately a bet that most customers spend more on Prime than it costs Amazon for fast shipping so if you don't order a lot you should for sure cancel Prime. If you are a very heavy user actually maybe I'd encourage you keep Prime because you're costing Amazon money. I suspect for Amazon, Prime is where they get most of their money (along with AWS).
