More young, childless women are getting their tubes tied.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/17/well/family/sterilization-tubal-ligation-younger-women.html

(🎁 link) Homo sapiens is the only species that consciusly can free themselves from the biological paradigm of procreation. More young, child-free women are pursuing female sterilization, effectively eliminating their chances of unintended pregnancies, in post Roe v. Wade era

Being Liberal ®🗽🏳️‍🌈 (@beingliberal.bsky.social) 2025-12-18T18:10:13.175Z

Female sterilization, medically called tubal ligation or salpingectomy, entails removing, severing or blocking the fallopian tubes. It is a permanent and highly effective form of contraception. For decades, the typical sterilization patient was an older woman who had already had children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But emerging data mirrors what Dr. Tatum was seeing at her clinic: After Roe was overturned in 2022, more younger, child-free women opted for the consequential procedure, effectively eliminating their chances of unintended pregnancies. One study, published last April, which looked at medical records from across the country, found that from June 2022 to September 2023, 21,180 18- to 30-year-olds had tubal ligations, up from 11,480 in that age group in the four years before the decision.

And, while more recent data isn’t available, patients and clinicians from seven states, some of which had abortion bans and others of which did not, as well as representatives from Planned Parenthood, told The New York Times that interest in the procedure among that demographic had remained high over the last three years, including after the 2024 election.

Some women told The Times that sterilization was a way to control their bodies and health at a time when their reproductive rights are in jeopardy and abortion is banned or restricted in 19 states.

They need a labor surplus in order to keep wages and salaries low. Fewer workers means better bargaining positions for prospective workers.

And this process is exercising that autonomy, so they'll hate it for that as well.

Add in the fact that they think baby-making is a magical and divinely-inspired process, and will therefore declare that these hussy women (who still won't have sex with THEM willingly, mind you) are "Defying The Will of God™ !!!11!" and it's easy to imagine all sorts of head exploding over in the wingnut stick-boy fantasy world.

And out of the work force. So, no bodily autonomy or personal income. IOW, subservient and easier to control. They feel men’s brains are superior to women’s when running things and making big decisions. Best for women “not to worry their pretty little heads” over anything except what’s for dinner.

Women running a company might enact “woke” policies like paid parental leave, insurance covered abortion, equal pay for equal work, and abominations like that.

The Roman Catholic church has been buying a lot of hospitals to prevent this from happening.

Throw in some crazy rethug politicians and they will outlaw birth control of any type -- pharmaceutical, surgical or otherwise

It’s a personal choice, and, women are always pressured by our culture into becoming mothers because “I want grand kids!” Or “just try it and see!” There are already scores of awful parents in this world. We don’t need more parents who had kids begrudgingly to appease others or “keep society going.”

We need to let the population shrink. It will be ok.

Many of their male counterparts have no respect for their bodily autonomy. Pregnancy has become even more dangerous. This is coming from someone who would've given anything to have children.

So they can tie their tubes and still have kids later. Not so for the middle and working classes.

To me the world is not parent or child friendly for the middle and working classes right now. It's not relationship friendly either.

Elizabeth Warren talked about the two-income trap, and that's a big part of it. People have to have two incomes now to make a good living for a family. The machine is riding us when we should be riding it. It's one reason I have high hopes for AI maybe giving people more time to do what they feel like doing and having to spend less time doing what the machine wants.

18. Men Have Options Too
Thu Dec 18, 2025, 04:40 PM

Vasectomy is a simpler procedure but some men feel it might make them less of a man. And they may be afraid to have their junk messed with by a doctor's blade. But as one who became childless by choice, I am glad I never had to defend myself in paternity suits and have court ordered child-support payments garnished from my pay. The sowing of "wild oats" has lasting consequences not to mention the trauma induced in an unwanted or "bastard" child. It's a shame that some men feel intitled to impregnate many women and brag about how virile they are. Well I say, farm animals can breed but real men take responsibility as parents raising their children or they choose not to father a child. And today's right wing anti-abortion agenda makes it more important to not burden a woman with an unwanted pregnancy. So in some cases, it's literally a matter of life or death.

Republicans, look what you have done. You have made having children so costly, and women’s healthcare so frightening, that young women are literally sterilizing themselves because they feel as though they’re backed into a hopeless corner. Literally, “Your money or your life.” Looking at you, Shady Vance, and others, who blabber on about how selfish child free women are. I’d like to see any of them go through pregnancy, labor, and 18 years of staying home with kids and no help.

Our society is heinously anti-family. No woman should be made to feel guilty about not wanting to children.

Men, you have to be better, too. Vigorously support and defend abortion rights, workplace equity, family leave, affordable healthcare.
