If someone was politically inconvenient, but too visible to be killed outright (I’ve been to the wall where they did that, right near Putin’s former villa in Potsdam, and the bullet holes are still there), they would “cancel” that person’s citizenship, and exile them out of the country, minus their papers. Usually to West Germany, obviously. Believing the myth of their importance, they thought that taking away someone’s material worth would destroy their spiritual worth. Instead, as with famous voices like singer Wolf Biermann or actor Manfred Krug, some of the expelled artists became even more famous after they were kicked out.

You know their next step will be to make it retroactive. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the court conservatives "interpret" the "original intent" of the 14th amendment to only apply to freed slaves and no one else born to non-citizens in the US since 1868.

A green-card mother married to a US citizen gives birth to a daughter. That daughter is now not a citizen. That daughter now gives birth to a US-born daughter. Who, due to her mother's non-citizenship, will also give birth to non-citizens. If her daughter (also a noncitizen) gives birth to a daughter -- that daughter too is a noncitizen. So where are we, four generations down the line, and all the daughters are still noncitizens?

It makes my head hurt, thinking about this.

To go too many generations back. Many older records are on microfiche or older technology, not digitized and harder to search and database.

I am thinking specifically where it says that "We hold these truths to be SELF-EVIDENT, that ALL men are created equal and they are ENDOWED BY THEIR CREATOR with certain UNALIENABLE RIGHTS, and among these are LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
Why does this make a difference? Because it means that any person who comes under the control or jurisdiction (such as the men on those boats) of the United States is entitled to full rights, the same as any citizen. That means everything contained in the Constitution.
If I remember correctly, the Constitution is already being parsed to death and even US citizens are NOT given full constitutional protections against search and seizure if they are outside of the US (not that even being he offers protection anymore) per the patriot act.

I'm sick of it. The 0.1% have gone full Thanos on us and plan to destroy us rather than share their bounty. They must be reined in.

20. The 14th Amendment is SPECIFIC...How can the SCOTUS get it wrong?
Sat Dec 6, 2025, 09:01 AM

It reads...
ALL persons born or Naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. NO state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges.

Once citizenship is assured, NO state is allowed to make a new law taking citizenship away from those born within their borders. I doubt all 50 states will enact laws, at such an expense to the residents of their state, to determine who is a citizen or not. This would take years to accomplish and a schism not seen since the 1860's.

The 14th Amendment makes NO mention on the (immigration) status of the parents. Should the Con 6 on the Supreme Court get this wrong, the United States CEASES to exist. This would be a Pandora's Box that would never be closed again.
