The delay in the onset of serious effects from this drug is measured in months. If he had 3-5 months, he would be in a far worse state at the moment and would not be on this drug. The damage would be done - as noted, this drug does not reverse symptoms, delays the transition to the worst state while the disease is in its earliest phase..

I'm not saying he is not on this drug, just that the 3-5 months is hyperbolic. It would explain the MRI as that is what they use to test the efficacy of this drug's effect.
