Responding to being added to the "Consider Boycotting" list by #GrabYourWallet, the social movement that circulates a spreadsheet of companies that support Trump or actively do business with the Trump family, L.L. Bean board chairman Shawn Gorman posted an open letter on Facebook disavowing any sort of political agenda.
"We were disappointed to learn that Grab Your Wallet is advocating a boycott against L.L.Bean solely because Linda Bean, who is only one of 50+ family members involved with the business, personally supported Donald Trump for President," the statement began. Gorman then went on to point out that L.L. Bean is a 95-year-old company that has regularly donated to non-profits that promote "environmental stewardship, educational attainment and a host of other worthy causes at the local, state and national levels." Most importantly, though, he doesn't feel that the company should be held politically accountable for one person's viewpoint:
Yesterday, L.L. Bean spokesperson Carolyn Beem elaborated on that point further by saying, "Unfortunately, some have attempted to attribute the personal political activities of one member of a five-generation ownership family to our entire company. That is both illogical and unfair."
