Our daughter, who we adopted, is of Mexican ancestry. She's in 4th grade, and we're in an area with lots of ICE activity.
We've tried to shelter her from the worst of the news, but she's fully aware of what ICE is, what ICE is doing, and the fact that people who look kind of like her are frequent targets. ICE agents have been seen in parks near her school.
This morning, my phone went off. Amber Alert - missing child. My daughter was next to me when it arrived.
She looked at me with real panic. "Was it ICE?!" she asked. She then ran off crying, worried that ICE might come for her. She wasn't play-panicking, either - she was genuinely terrified.
My daughter shouldn't have to afraid to be herself in the neighborhood. She's afraid unknown adults will come and grab her. No child should experience that.

(11,057 posts)The current president is an abomination to humanity. I cant write anything to make you feel better now but sooner rather than later a hard rain is going to fall on the Nazis who did this to the most vulnerable.

(39,960 posts)She should carry it (carefully) on her person at all times. You should keep a high-res scanned photocopy of her Passport also.
If the time should ever come that your daughter is confronted or nabbed by ICE, do this: post your daughter's photo on friendly social media, identify her as a US citizen, say that she's born in the US, and her adoptive parents are also US-born citizens. I'm not a lawyer but these are sensible things that anyone can do to protect their loved ones.
Good luck, dear.

(7,376 posts)We terrify children with "shooter drills" and now we've got ICE around every stone and corner. And if it's not one of those two, it's the wayward bullet of a gun... trigger pulled by themselves or someone else... or physical and sexual abuse. We've got it all in this country, and don't seem to feel the need to remedy any of it. SMDH.
Your daughter should *not* have to grow up looking over her shoulder all the time. Breaks my heart....

(22,137 posts)Sorry for the extreme language, but I can't of any other words strong enough to express what I think of ICE's depredations, desecrations, and despoliations. They are an abomination and an outrage. This should NOT be allowed to continue, but who the hell is going to stop it and how?

(8,937 posts)I am a proud grandchild of Italian immigrants and Im married to a naturalized citizen. The fear keeps me up at night. His skin is brown too. I will never forgive this administration for making racism a reason for assault. Its unforgivable in a country built by immigrants!

(337 posts)My bonus daughter, in fifth grade, is Thai. Her mom is a naturalized citizen and my bonus daughter has derivative citizenship (effective earlier this year before the idiot let geobbels jr in charge).
I am constantly worried about her and what would happen if the terrorists ICE went to their school or pulled her and her mom over at some kind of stop.
Her grandfather (my wife's father) has been very ill lately and they are asking do I think it's safe for them to leave the country if he passes (and be able to return).
I honestly do not know but my initial thought is not without a whole bunch of difficulty. And, is it going to be worth it (I know that sounds crass but I don't mean it to).
I'll never forgive the orange pedo or most of those who voted for him.
She is a ray of sunshine. I try to keep the violence and terroristic actions from her, but it's not easy.

(337 posts)Bonus daughter had an assignment to write down her thoughts and feelings about Heman Sweatt and not being accepted at UT Law School.
After a lot of discussion and me pulling thoughts out of her we were able to complete her class assignment.
I will say it was very enlightening and we had a good conversation.
We ended the conversation with her calling me her bestie.
Tears of joy.

(45,596 posts)No child should have to experience this trauma.
A friend's daughter is half Iranian (father). She is married to an American citizen from Nicaragua. Friend's 2 beautiful, brown granddaughters attend a Spanish immersion middle school in Philadelphia. The school has been regularly locking down because of ICE outside.
These monsters are terrorizing children.

(1,344 posts)forgive him.
The position of president of this great country was created to lead the people and the country into the future. NOT to destroy and grift and steal from the people. And this is just a small list of the things this man has done.
