https://www.cleveland.com/news/2025/03/too-stupid-for-words-trump-pulls-back-20-semi-trucks-of-food-from-clevelands-food-bank.htmlThe Greater Cleveland Food Bank faces a crisis that could leave thousands of Northeast Ohioans hungry as early as this week, bringing harsh criticism of the Donald Trump administration from Today in Ohio podcast hosts Chris Quinn and Lisa Garvin.
The food bank is facing cancellation of 20 semi trucks full of food, and that could happen as early as this week, explained Garvin. This food is coming from the Federal Emergency Food Assistance Program. Each truck holds 100,000 pounds of food. So thats $2 million worth of food.
Garvin noted the truckloads represent about a weeks worth of food for Northeast Ohio. The cancellations appear to be part of broader federal spending cuts, but the hosts questioned whether this decision was deliberate policy or simply incompetence.
Ive got to think that Trump himself doesnt know about this because this is too stupid for words, Quinn said bluntly. Nothing drives you more than hunger.
The podcast highlighted how the cancellations would impact not just recipients but also local farmers. The food bank expects to lose a million pounds of food from local... Food for Purchase Assistance, which provides fresh food from area farmers to food banks. Garvin explained that losing this program means that they cant meet the demand for fresh food or protein, which is really expensive to replace and really hard to get donated to the food bank.
*snip*
The cruelty is the point.

... Try every damned one of 'em. One cannot be a good person and a Trump voter; they are mutually exclusive concepts. And the only way one could be reasonably intelligent and a Trump voter, is if one is just as malevolent and hateful as he is, with equally malicious motives.
I've excised some family members from my life because of their continued support for that fucking monster.
I have to agree, in general.
I make an allowance for those who realize their terrible mistake at this point-- to at least be aspiring, wannabe good people. If they can admit it, they can change.
I used to give everybody the benefit of the doubt. Not any more.
You have to firmly turn your back on them. It's hard, but it's the only way. And now it could not be clearer that excusing them is dangerous.

(3,305 posts)... because Trump, loud-mouthed braggart that he is, has openly stated that he wants any excuse to impose martial law, and he's getting closer to it. It is imperative that everyone keeps focused, not only on his blatantly obscene attacks on the law, the courts, individual judges, and the entire Constitution, but the irrefutable fact of his obsequious deference and willing service to Putin and his obsession with destroying America from within. And Republicans are happy to help him do it; they have always despised the very concept of democracy, and now they're not even making a pretense of respect for it. Just listen to skid marks like Mike Lee (R) Utah, and others as they openly disparage democracy.
My hatred of conservatism, a mental disorder on the dark end of the sociopathy spectrum, has always burned hotter than the surface of the Sun, but now it has gone supernova.
You may surmise that I feel strongly about this subject, and you would be right.

(336 posts)Krasnov can't wait to shoot people, someone, anyone! I think the protests at tesla are going to be where we see the first shootings. This regime is coming down hard on the protesters threatening to charge them as domestic terrorists. So it's either start shooting them or ship them to El Salvador.

(9,990 posts)I am curious as to what will happen once this comes to pass. Either the forces that be will refuse to attack U.S. civilians, or we are going to have a civil war on our hands as the forces that be find out we are not as helpless as they want us to be.
One way or another, we are headed for something. Hoe bad it will be depends on how much we want this crap to stop.
Because, if we do not respond accordingly to such a blatant attack on the very fabric of our lives, one has to conclude that we want this.

(9,990 posts)One would think she was intelligent and cultured.
Like many teens, I had some major questions about what I began to perceive as a hypocritical behavior from some people and some authority figures. However, she did not want to discuss certain topics and would not even acknowledge certain issues. I would try to talk to her about them and how these things were important to me, but she would not even respond to my queries. She would instead start another conversation about some banal item. If someone were to walk by the room, they would have been confused, because before seeing what was going inside, one would think there were at least four people in there because there were two different conversations going on.
So, it is probably no wonder that I am as messed up as I am, thanks to such complete and willful ignorance of reality. Some people don't want to live in reality. I live with one now, in fact. They strive to be anywhere but in their own skin. (A lot of the times, these are the same people who cannot handle being wrong about something either. So, being a 'denier' makes this easier for them.)

(8,103 posts)This is a true statement. And the Food Bank is acknowleging that people are dependent on it to feed themselves. This is solid evidence that rump is creating hunger. It doesn't have a whole lot to say for "lowering food prices" when you can't receive even free food for your family.

(13,325 posts)Sometimes when the deals at the grocery store arent there my food stamps dont go far. Thats when the food bank is a lifesaver. I have gone to my program without having food for a few days. Everyone could tell I was ravenous they gave me what they didnt want and the guy who cooks for my program gave me food to take home. I was so grateful that day to everybody .Was a little embarrassed wolfing down my food tho. Hunger can make you do shit you normally wouldnt do.

I'm sick of this, "Oh, if Trump only knew about this, he'd fix it right away" bullshit.
The only time anyone in the Trump administration will care about this is when hungry, angry people are chasing them down Pennsylvania Avenue with ropes in hand.
If you were alive and sentient during the first Trump interregnum you knew that the prime motivator for Trump is cruelty. Just didn't think it would be cruelty that affected something that was important to you? Well, you were wrong.

(52,867 posts)Unless you've got permits that are almost impossible to get for a load like this, a truck will only carry 43,000 pounds of cargo.
Either way, this is a disaster of epic proportions that's only there because Trump thrives on hurting people.

(75,683 posts)The gross weight limit on the interstate highway system is 80,000#.
So, there can't be a load of 100,000# unless the trailer & tractor weighs negative 20,000#.
I know there are heavy equipment exceptions (hauling big endloaders, for instance), but that requires special permits & a pretty hefty added cost.
I think you're right; it should be $100,000, not pounds.

(8,670 posts)Except for the cost of loading it on trucks, moving it, and unloading it, and that's minuscule compared to the cost of the food.
So, where does the food go? Will it eventually get thrown out?
That would be an example of government waste.

(64,082 posts)Vance said it went against *rump's earlier proclamations that Europe should do more for it's own defense as we only have about 3% and they have 40% of the shipping.
This is reasonable logic and Vance went on to support the bombing, but *rump doesn't do reasonable logic, so Vance had to be taught a lesson.

(3,111 posts)But was probably targeting Cleveland because it's a democratic area. The state is so gerrymandered and republicans control most of the election boards.
While they support giving Musk millions and billions of dollars the thought of money going to feed people makes republicans apoplectic. They would rather fund gas chambers to kill people than provide lunches for school students. Brian Stewart is over fiance committee. He is the one that authored the gas chamber bill. Reintroduce that bill this year.
About the lunch bill he stated that " There are real questions folks have when these school lunch proposals are talking about paying for the richest 1%; would still qualify for a free lunch. I don't think that sits real well with some folks like myself. " Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman was asked if he supported the program, "the answer to that is no."
