The Atlantic has now published the Signal texts with attack plans in response to administration denials.
I worked at the Pentagon.
If information like this is not classified, nothing is.
If Hegseth is claiming he declassified this information, he should be shown the door for having done so.

So, about that Signal chat.
On Monday, shortly after we published a story about a massive Trump-administration security breach, a reporter asked the secretary of defense, Pete Hegseth, why he had shared plans about a forthcoming attack on Yemen on the Signal messaging app. He answered, “Nobody was texting war plans. And that’s all I have to say about that.”
At a Senate hearing yesterday, the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, and the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe, were both asked about the Signal chat, to which Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of The Atlantic, was inadvertently invited by National Security Adviser Michael Waltz. “There was no classified material that was shared in that Signal group,” Gabbard told members of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Ratcliffe said much the same: “My communications, to be clear, in the Signal message group were entirely permissible and lawful and did not include classified information.”
President Donald Trump, asked yesterday afternoon about the same matter, said, “It wasn’t classified information.”

(11,063 posts)The entire 47 regime follows the Roy Cohn playbook.
(link)
. . Cohn imparted an M.O. that’s been on searing display throughout Trump’s ascent, his divisive, captivating campaign, and his fraught, unprecedented presidency. Deflect and distract, never give in, never admit fault, lie and attack, lie and attack, publicity no matter what, win no matter what, all underpinned by a deep, prove-me-wrong belief in the power of chaos and fear.
. . .
Regime: The texts are fake.
So prove that by releasing this supposedly unclassified exchange.
Regime: No, national security.
If it is a matter of national security, doesn't that mean the exchange revealed classified information?
Regime: No. The texts released are fake.
So show us the exchange.
Regime: No. National security. Goldberg is being arrested for hacking into the chat. It's a socialist conspiracy to undermine the great government we're building.
And round and round they go.

Whoever advised Waltz and others to deny that should be demoted.

(101 posts)I think the Krasnov regime will sue for a gazillion dollars and continue to call Goldberg a hoax spreader. Of course they'll continue to deny this, using a multitude of variations on what happened or didn't happen.
I know it's very clear that everyone denied anything in the chat was classified but it would not be unusual for Krasnov to now say it was classified and arrest Goldberg.
Maga media will then only broadcast what Krasnov is saying and sanewash it. The magas 100% believe what Krasnov says.

We're barely 9 weeks in, and the damage his people have done could take years to fix. I don't want to imagine what the state of the nation will be in 4 years, assuming the nation survives that long.
Not only are these dildo's wrecking the nation, they're threatening the stability and safety of the world.
Trump's actions make this world less safe each day he's in office.

We sent our first request for comment and feedback to national-security officials shortly after noon, and followed up in the evening after most failed to answer.
Late yesterday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emailed a response: “As we have repeatedly stated, there was no classified information transmitted in the group chat. However, as the CIA Director and National Security Advisor have both expressed today, that does not mean we encourage the release of the conversation. This was intended to be a an [sic] internal and private deliberation amongst high-level senior staff and sensitive information was discussed. So for those reason [sic] — yes, we object to the release.” (The Leavitt statement did not address which elements of the texts the White House considered sensitive, or how, more than a week after the initial air strikes, their publication could have bearing on national security.)
A CIA spokesperson asked us to withhold the name of John Ratcliffe’s chief of staff, which Ratcliffe had shared in the Signal chain, because CIA intelligence officers are traditionally not publicly identified. Ratcliffe had testified earlier yesterday that the officer is not undercover and said it was “completely appropriate” to share their name in the Signal conversation. We will continue to withhold the name of the officer. Otherwise, the messages are unredacted.
