and the private sector, is to dry up their funds and starve them in order to force them to take agricultural work?

(13,783 posts)My MIL lasted only a week each time for the two years she tried picking cotton for "shoe money" during the post-war Recession (late 40's) alongside some of her schoolmates, sharecroppers and local jail labor in the local fields
And she was living rural; limited indoor plumbing (grey water only, no indoor toilet), 10 acres of bottom land for a small orchard and sustainance garden, and her Daddy ran a small forge (for nails, hinges, car and cart repair) and a still for, ahem, "medicinal and industrial alcohol".
She was 10/11 years old and used to hard farm work.
Each week she went out picking cotton (2 cents a 20 lb bag, 5 -7 bags a day) she (and her sisters and poorer schoolmates) would universally be laid up for two weeks or so afterwards, waiting on hands, arms, and legs to heal.
She thinks she lost almost 5 layers of skin along with the deep cuts trying to pick enough cotton to get two pair of shoes each year.
And they'd spend that time trying to patch up the clothes that got tore up from the fields along with their normal chores.
That sort of activity was not unusual in the poor South.
The scars on her hands are still there.
That's what the GOP wants to back to. Plantation Economy.

(82 posts)As you pick the white lint, the "bracts" of the cotton boll will slice your fingers. All the plants have been dessicated and will also cut you everywhere. You have to wear thick gloves and heavy clothes for protection. However, it is beautiful to be surrounded by blooming cotton - green with pink and purple flowers and wonderful smell. (grew up surrounded by cotton fields).

The intent obviously is white supremacy. People with education will not be doing farm labor.

(153 posts)I also think the plan is to use the homeless population. The housing for farm workers exists and is available right away. I found that out when looking for low income housing for my brother. In Spokane, low income housing waiting lists are at least a year long, but if my brother was a farm worker, he could get an apartment right away. This would get the homeless out of major cities and out of sight. No more homeless problem! Yeah, right...

(29,183 posts)They want transgender people dead, and POC as well, so they'll double-down on making sure to be as cruel as possible. If they become homeless and starve, too bad. Oh, and if homeless, we'll imprison you for sleeping on a park bench because jail is where other deranged white people can beat your ass and not get arrested. Their wet dream is slavery, but in the short term, they're just going for cruelty.
