Sen King: "What happened last night is the most direct assault on the authority of Congress..."

"What happened last night is the most direct assault on the authority of Congress, I believe, in the history of the United States. It is blatantly unconstitutional," Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) says of Trump's OMB halting all federal grants.

"If this stands, then Congress may as well adjourn."

If Thune and Johnson are okay with this - any result sits with them and their party.

Republican legislators are all pretty much Millionaires, even if a few of them are just rural car dealers, bank managers, or other "local big mouth fish" put up by their state's party machine or district corporate employers.
They can give up their jobs and seat themselves comfortably in positions of local power at home, expecting to make more money than they do in Congress while they can look their lesser being prey in the eyes and get off on the pain and punishment they inflict, if they're into that.
The only thing they're really going to miss are the DC parties and media soapbox. But like most good corporate prostitutes, they can probably find some way to have monthly or quarterly get-togethers to get drunk and play church or d*ck measuring games with each other.
I can see Johnson and most of the GOP House being fine with giving up on National Government. Most of them seem to be simple but venal rocks when it comes to money and power.
The GOP Senate might be a bit more reluctant to give up the parties and wider reaches of power.
