PARIS France has discussed with Denmark sending troops to Greenland in response to United States President Donald Trump's repeated threats to annex the Danish territory, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said.
Barrot said in an interview with France's Sud Radio that France "started discussing [troop deployment] with Denmark," but that it was not "Denmark's wish" to proceed with the idea.
Barrot's comments came as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was in the middle of a lightning tour of European capitals to drum up support from allies in dealing with Trump.
The newly inaugurated U.S. president has become increasingly focused on claiming the huge Arctic island, and has pointedly not ruled out using military force or economic coercion to take it from Denmark later in the day.
Frederiksen was in Berlin and Paris Tuesday morning to speak with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, respectively, and is set to meet NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Brussels.

(6,389 posts)Europeans (Great Britain is too cowed) to get very aggressive against the GQP/MAGA cabal. Likewise the Mexican government. The Mexican leadership should make it publicly clear that any US military action against them will be met with force in response and the Mexican government will embrace military alliances with others in the region and from around the world.
Canada should do likewise. If Crumb The 1st should try anything with tariffs the Canadians should respond by doubling it against US exports to Canada. Likewise Mexico and any other country. On a similar note if the Mexican and Canadian governments were to close the border to any movement of goods the US auto industry for example would suffer huge impacts in short order. If Crumb put out feelers saying he wanted to "talk" they should very publicly tell him to shove it up his ass and make him twist for a very long time.
Enough of the mafia boss tactics from this despicable excuse for a human being. Enough of the extortion over foreign aid and domestic spending.
