Proposed budget cuts may leave over half of Abilene's Meals on Wheels clients unfed

ABILENE, Texas — Meals on Wheels recently received an email that U.S. Representative, Jodey Arrington, has proposed a budget cut that would deeply affect them.

"That would include cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, and the social services block grant funds, which are Title 20 funds, with a possible elimination of title 20 funds," Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Abilene, Betty Bradley, said. "And the Meals on Wheels program in Abilene receives like $1.9 million of Title 20 funds."

Bradley said that those funds are used to serve lower income people who meet specific criteria and have a need for the service.

"We have over 1,800 clients in Abilene and the 14 communities that we serve," Bradley said. "And so for us to lose half of our funding, means, you know, I don’t know, it probably would mean more than half of our clients would no longer be able to get meals."

Not only feeds the elderly nutritious meals but often it is the only human contact a person has when the meal is delivered to their door. Fuck that. Billionaires need bigger yachts.

The northern Big Country and Rolling Plains have no industry. The fields are fallow and there hasn't been economic vitality in 40 years. The last real boom was 1945 for some, 1929 for the rest. This region is heavily dependent on Community Services Block Grants and Community Development Block Grants along with Medicare and Medicaid funding. It will approach 1932 levels of poverty and people will have to move to the cities.

Don’t feed those lacking

Don’t house those who need shelter

Don’t provide medical care

Yep the new Jesus hates everything the old Jesus loved

Jesus hates the little children
All the children of the world
Red and yellow, black and white
They are beggars in his sight
Jesus hates the little children of the world

It’s kinda like the current admin disabling all the programs that helped those less fortunate. Yeah, he sees everyone as beneath him.

I just don't believe, as a life-long Democrat, that said results justify the starvation of poor people.

That's all.

Passive genocide. Make things so bad that people just die or kill themselves. Then they claim that they didn't do it. Just watch the suicide numbers spike if this continues very long.
