EO impacts: World Cup 2026. This is a big deal

There are probably no bigger deals in the sports world than the World Cup. The three-country 2026 bid was conceived while Obama was President, though it was officially made in April 2017.

I expect tRump's racist border clampdown will be in full swing. Can you imagine the screening going on in the visa section of the US border control? Submit three copies of your DNA. The databases, the body scans at the border? Last thing an authoritarian wants is a terrorist incident. But how competently will tRump organize it?

There will be implications for tourism. Come to the US and get swept up in an ICE raid for fun! Tour concentration camps! Will maga protest the Mexican team? Media coverage and backgrounders and documentaries will be saturation world wide.

The contrast between the US on one side and Canada and Mexico on the other will be widely noted, including inside the US.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, marketed as FIFA World Cup 26,[2] will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. It will be jointly hosted by 16 cities in three North American countries; the majority of matches will take place in the United States, while Canada and Mexico will host selected matches. The tournament will be the first hosted by three nations and the first North American World Cup since 1994.[3][4]

Two games scheduled in US on July 4. All the quarter-final and up games are in the US, July 9 and after.

tRump's "Triumph of the Will" is likely to be close behind.

Amazon Prime Video will release a documentary about Melania Trump.

“We started the production in November, and we are shooting right now,” Melania told Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt “So it’s a day-to-day life, what I’m doing, what kind of responsibilities I have. People, they don’t really know and they will see it. It’s day to day, from transition team to moving to the White House, packing, establishing my team, the First Lady office, moving into the White House, what it takes to make the residence your home, to hire the people that you need.”

When asked how the documentary came about, Melania responded referencing her recent memoir. “The book was such a success, and I’m very proud, and I get so many messages and letters [from readers] how they enjoy the book, and they would love, my fans and people, would love to hear more from me,” she said. “So I had an idea to make a movie, to make a film about my life. My life is incredible. It’s incredibly busy. And I told my agent,
you know,
I have this idea. So please, you know, go out and make a deal for me.”

The documentary will be directed by Brett Ratner.

In 2017, Ratner was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women, including Olivia Munn and Elliot Page. He denied the allegations, but has not directed a film since 2014's Hercules.

Qatar was using slave labor to build their infrastructure and it is estimated 6500 laborers were killed doing so.

Host cities (many in Republican states) probably won't get the economic boon they were hoping for from international visitors.
