(32,861 posts)I had no symptoms at all / ever. The only reason I took a covid test was because i had some about to expire and I had a dental appointment coming up. After I tested positive I went to a walk-in clinic and was tested again and given Paxlovid.
Never had any symptoms.
I believe I had 8 shots all together for covid.
Irish_Dem
(61,090 posts)Was quite sick, took the Paxlovid, got Covid Rebound and was sicker than with the original covid.
Took two months to get back to 100% feeling better.
But just found out today I have some long Covid problems.
I have always had normal cholesterol and inexplicably shot to a very high number in
recent blood work.
I exercise every day, eat mainly protein and fruits/veggies.
Do not smoke or drink.
And I am low to normal weight.
I did some online research and found out that this is a symptom of long covid.
So now I am on a meds to bring the cholesterol down.
Other than that I feel fine now.

I've had COVID twice - long COVID after the first one. Most of the identified problems have resolved. The one continuing problems - blood glucose is higher and less predictable. I used to be able to control it very precisely with diet - now it is all over the place.
Pretty sure I've been exposed at least twice this week. On Monday I was told one of my professors had COVID so I shouldn't expect to see him this week . . . but I've seen him twice. I'm still masking virtually all the time, so I'm relatively safe. But I hope we aren't starting a little wave through the school.
And - I am expecting to be told I shouldn't continue to vaccinate (I get a month of severe headaches after each vaccination - the last one sent me to the ER).

(35,743 posts)It contains added adjuvants - and I already have a wack-a-doodle immune system. Both autoimmune disorders and immune deficiencies. Currently, I react very strongly to vaccines (not just COVID). I've run a 103 temp for several hours after the last several I've gotten. I've fount mixed reviews about the comparative heart risk between the two types of vaccine - but that is an issue because I've had a lifelong heart murmur and am at risk for cardiovascular disease. (I know the risk is higher from COVID than from the vaccine - which is part of why I've had 9 vaccinations already. But the issue here is whether I can continue to live with spending two months a year largely in bed with my blankets over my head - in between running to worship the porcelain throne.)

(14 posts)it would be like a flu shot? I don't recall having that impression. As a matter of course, I remember after the first shot, the second shot (think it was referred to as a "booster" ) was recommended very soon afterwards. Some people balked at that because it didn't make sense to them. But then it just settled into more and more shot because the flu virus morphs.
LetMyPeopleVote
(156,461 posts)Right now, they are dealing with a still mutating virus and so more shots are needed

(14 posts)You get vaccinated for one strain of virus 🦠 but since it morphs it has a poor efficacy rate. In other words, getting the flu shot doesn't prevent a person from getting the flu during flu season. And what bugs me since the Covid jabs were rolled out is that the past few summers we've had flu epidemics long before fall! 🥴

When six month passed, the nuts continued in two ways: a claim that massive deaths were being covered up, but showed up in statistics, and separately that the mass die-off would be in full swing after 3 years. When you look at their statistics, it is not hard to see how they misinterpret them.
It's more than three years now.

(19,211 posts)55 have died from side effects of the shot. 8 billion, 8,000,000,000. Eight thousand millions. For perspective, 1.8411 billion is the entire population of China. The entire world population is 8.025 billion. If it killed people, a *lot* of people would have died of it.
I've had friends who are firmly convinced that the shot causes death because they are being told so by people on Fox or on social media who do not have this country's interests at heart- the opposite. I will never understand why anyone would sell our people that idea. It makes me so sad that so many have lost their lives or have long term health problems because they didn't take the shot. Thank you for asking this question. It's 3 am here and I need to get some sleep before work but here is one study that may be useful.

Death after the Administration of COVID-19 Vaccines Approved by EMA: Has a Causal Relationship Been Demonstrated?Abstract
More than eight billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered globally so far and 44.29% of people are fully vaccinated. Pre-authorization clinical trials were carried out and the safety of vaccines is still continuously monitored through post-commercialization surveillance. However, some people are afraid of vaccine side effects, claiming they could lead to death, and hesitate to get vaccinated. Herein, a literature review of COVID-19-vaccine-related deaths has been carried out according to the PRISMA standards to understand if there is a causal relationship between vaccination and death and to highlight the real extent of such events. There have been 55 cases of death after COVID-19 vaccination reported and a causal relationship has been excluded in 17 cases. In the remaining cases, the causal link between the vaccine and the death was not specified (8) or considered possible (15), probable (1), or very probable/demonstrated (14). The causes of deaths among these cases were: vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) (32), myocarditis (3), ADEM (1), myocardial infarction (1), and rhabdomyolysis (1). In such cases, the demonstration of a causal relationship is not obvious, and more studies, especially with post-mortem investigations, are needed to deepen understanding of the possible pathophysiological mechanisms of fatal vaccine side effects. In any event, given the scarcity of fatal cases, the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks and the scientific community needs to be cohesive in asserting that vaccination is fundamental to containing the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

I have nothing against RFK Jr. from a human perspective, he should probably be an environmental leader, that's the kind of thing he's trained for but under no circumstance should he be a health secretary. So his health secretary position, or the potential position, will doom us to outbreaks for our kids.

My Dad died from Covid complications in 2023. He had recovered from the disease but within a week, his gallbladder literally died (coagualtion issues most likelly) and though they were pumping him full of antibiotics to bring down the swelling for an othroscopy, he went septic within 24 hours. He went within 4-5 days...
I still bllame the fucking Care Facility for not following protocol when they KNEW they had Covid in there. He collapsed outside on the patio and they "lost" him for 30 mns before calling for EMT's when he had the disease... if they had been more careful, maybe he wouldn't have suffered. But then again, memory care IS truly suffering...long and drawn out disaster

(83,374 posts)The staff is overworked and thin in most of these facilities.
While those in direct contact with individuals who need care are dedicated to those under their care, it is the "upper caste" who do everything they can to cut costs. Those who need care suffer, usually in silence.
Most states could care less and do little to ensure proper care. I worked for a few after I got out of the Army (I was a Medical Plt Sgt) and had no problem calling the "powers that be" at the state level. There are some companies that own virtually all of the Care Facilities in a state. It came down to "if you save a dollar, do it."

(14,369 posts)She didn't want dad's prolonged care to eat up our inheritance... The place had billing and management issues from the get-go. And the staff was lazy at best, not even really overworked, just didn't care enough to make the effort.
I hated visiting him there and the food they served was a fucking joke. We tried to get them to give h8im better options, even went out of our way to buy/provide things he liked because they "said" they would give it to him. The staff put it in their refrigerator instead and they disappeard ...
I'm glad he's crossed over, he didn't deserve that at all. His last year after Mom passed was hell for him, and even with dementia, he was aware enough to know he wasn't home or in a "normal" place...

(376 posts)... She had been battling a brain tumor for more than 15 years. We did two surgeries', Kemo, and Radiation, and every time we thought they finally got it all, it would come back. Her last hope was to try Gene Therapy.... All was going well, until she got a blood clot in the brain, and had a stroke.... (side effect of the medicine from the Gene Therapy)
She went into emergency, and they were not able to remove all of the clot, due to them piercing her blood vessel with the tool they remove clots with... thankfully, she didn't bleed long, but they couldn't get all of it out....
About that time, Covid was ramping up... They closed the hospital to all visitors...
The last time I seen her in the hospital, she was being transferred to a Therapy wing. After 2 1/2 months of not seeing her, because of the Covid restrictions, they realized she would not recover from her stroke, so they sent her home...
I was her soul caregiver all the way to the end. She was bedridden, up to the day she passed.... On February 14, she passed away.
Because of Covid, I was not able to help her in her therapy, visit her, or even just hold her while she was in the hospitals.
I have learned to accept things out of my control, but I know that she is no longer suffering. Life is pretty lonely at times, but I know that we will be together again, someday.
Give your friend a hug, and let her know that in time, the pain will subside, she will find things that make her happy, it just takes time. The loss can never go away, but if we hold them in our hearts and minds, this is how we honor them...

(215 posts)I plan to wear my mask every public place every winter for the foreseeable future. I also plan to wear them places like grocery stores year round. It stuns me that medical personnel do not wear masks. If someone gives me grief, I pretend that I am sick and offer to cough on them.

(38,758 posts)That's a long time to suffer. I still mask & last week in the grocery store a woman said to me as we crossed in the aisle, "Covid's over." I coughed really loud inside my mask & she hustled away. It's not over!

(10,524 posts)The first time, there wasn't a safe testing method for it so my doctor recommended against testing.
I came back with it from travelling.
I had ordered N95 masks in Jan '20 when I first heard about it - from two different places fearing an order would get stolen. Both orders never made it.
But early on, I got N95 masks. I have worn them in public ever since.
I've never missed a vaccination.
We socially distanced. etc.
My doctor and I came up with an anti covid cocktail - much of what they gave Trump when he got it.
In spite of all that, I've had it 5 times.
I have immediate family in retail.
Got it once from my dentists office.
2024 was long Covid. After a month of it in Jan, it morphed into a 12 week pneumonia and then into some sort of chromic gout-like arthritic attack (I don't drink, etc). Blood tests did not clear up until Sept.
Put on a bunch of weight from being idle so long. I still have 10 lbs to lose.
I think what Trump (& Reps like DeSantis) did about it was horrific - they killed a lot of people.
I think Dr. Fauci and others like him were heroic and wonderful - they saved lives.
A dear friend's wife nearly died from it last week. Paxlovid appears to have helped save her.
My daughter's family of four may be fighting it now. They seem to be coming through it ok. Everyone's test kits have expired and new ones haven't been easy to find.

(10,524 posts)If you have nothing, it might be better than nothing
but it still leaves that uncertainty "what if the test is wrong because it is past its best before date?" ...
A top 10 killer ought to have a decent supply of those tests

(277 posts)With trump and RFK Jr. In office we are screwed if something like this happens again. We were lucky because Biden was able to get us back on track after Covid but we will not have an incoming democratic president this time. I am fearing bird flu will become a thing in time.

(35,504 posts)Another Pandemic from whatever disease this close to Covid probably won't happen. The last one prior to Covid was during WW1.
Covid is now Endemic. A portion of the population who would have previously died from Flu or Pneumonia are now dying from Covid.
