Viewers Don’t Tolerate Morning Joe Appeasing Trump
MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are the network’s power couple. The two hosts are either depending on who is doing the evaluating the most powerful or second most powerful on-air talent at the network. They along with Rachel Maddow set the direction and tone for the network on the air, so the hosts sent a resounding message when they told viewers that they had recently met with Donald Trump, and were trying a “new direction” with the president-elect.
Anyone who has been paying attention since the press decided that the big problem facing America was that Joe Biden was too old and had to immediately leave the presidential race can guess what happened next, but in case there was any doubt about how angry Democrats are and who they are angry at, this is what happened after the Morning Joe duo made their announcement.

In 2024, the reaction happens in minutes. People cancel their Washington Post subscriptions. They turn off Morning Joe. There is no time wasted. A fed up audience that has long been taken for granted by mainstream media while they placate and chase after conservatives is not messing around anymore.

During the 6am-7am block, the show averaged 839K viewers, 113K of which were in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 demographic, according to Nielsen. In the hour after, the total audience number fell to 694K, a 17% drop. In the 25-54 demo, the ratings plummeted a staggering 38% to 70K. It's highly unusual for a morning show to hemorrhage viewers from the 6am hour to the 7am hour. The normal trend is for a program to see viewership grow as more people turn on the television later in the morning. And, to be fair, in the 8am hour, the ratings grew to 775k. But that’s much lower than usual and still down from the 6am number.
