Trans congresswoman Sarah McBride responds to Capitol Hill bathroom ban

Sarah McBride, the incoming congresswoman and first openly transgender person elected to the US House of Representatives, on Wednesday shared a statement on social media in response to the House banning trans people from using single-sex bathrooms on Capitol Hill that match their gender identity.

Earlier in the day, the House speaker, Louisiana Republican Mike Johnson, issued a statement “regarding facilities throughout the US Capitol complex”.

Johnson said: “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings – such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms – are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.”

He added: “It is important to note that each member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol. Women deserve women’s only spaces.”

Funny how all the "Scary!!!!" things that the transphobes say are sure to happen if you don't make ridiculous rules like this don't seem to be happening at our major colleges and universities. In fact, I can't find a single story about an issue that happened at a college with communal bathrooms. Thousands upon thousands of college students live under such arrangements every day and do just fine.

I can't figure out if these idiotic transphobic people are more evil or stupid.

My nephew started college this fall. He lives in a dorm room he shares with with a friend he's known since preschool. She happens to be a young woman. They are not romantically involved. The room has large closets that serve as changing rooms. Their high school had unisex bathrooms with enclosed floor to ceiling toilet "rooms" (similar to public restrooms in Canada and Europe).

They do not seem to think the arrangement is all that strange...

Perhaps future generations will have a more adult perspective on body parts.
