...it's mostly an echo chamber full of witty and wonderful quips from the likes of George Takei, and John Fugelsang; and interesting art and ponderous cartoons; but a dearth of actual news or political debate.
The most visible difference is the absence of pols, pundits, and reporters who need confronting with our disagreements, views, and other perspectives. I'm not sure how Bluesky users postings will find themselves actually meeting newsmakers and other public figures who aren't on the site, where they are or where the public will be influenced by it all.
It's really nice as an enlightening place where good people spend their internet time saying good things, but it doesn't appear to be impacting anything other than it's own users, and even that isn't making much of a noise.
Baby steps, I guess. But until it becomes a place where good people intersect with others with which they have some of the profound and consequential disagreements present in our society today, or develops a strong stream and debating of news and current political events, it's just going to be a nice place for me to visit and nothing more.

It's as limited as a google search.
I see Guardian, Mother Jones, and I understand NYT is the most popular news org. searched for there.
This is not even a sliver of what I'm used to finding. It's really bad. I can't see myself relying on the little I found, which was so narrowly presented and just no.
Where are all of the reporters, pols, and newsmakers? So weak and sparse, it has the feel of one of the cheap aggregates I used to find before the turn of the century.

I follow like 1200 people on twitter and my feed rocks. I'll see if I can get that level of resource there at some point.

(972 posts)Mostly a fun place where you could laugh or learn. Now its just trolls, robots, and algorithms feeding you right wing posts and misinformation.

If all you're following are big accounts that just landed there after fleeing Twitter, then yeah.
But if you've been around for the past year and a half you'd have seen a lot more engaging and interesting discussion than you've seen on twitter in years.
Time to readjust your feeds, follows, and HOW you engage politically on the service.

(10,728 posts)Most of the investment/finance people that I followed on twitter have already started posting on bluesky, including some prominent business journalists. I already have a more useful feed there than on the other site.

(22,610 posts)It works pretty well... it's not perfect. It's legit. Quite easy to follow the instructions.
If you've decided, like many others, that it's time to leave X behind, you don't have to leave your entire social circle. That's where the Sky Follower Bridge extension comes in handy. This tool allows you to migrate your followers, followings, and even your block list from X to Bluesky, making the transition relatively seamless.
This article has links to get it for Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge:

There's no algorithm pushing content into your feed. You have to go and find it.

I get it. X needs to die, for many reasons, but mostly because of Musk.
