Raw Story: 'Real concern': Foreign officials sending warnings to Trump about boycott on intel sharing

Raw Story - 'Real concern': Foreign officials sending warnings to Trump about boycott on intel sharing

On Wednesday morning, MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire reported that current and former domestic and foreign intel officials are expressing extreme alarm over the nomination by Donald Trump about his choice of former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard as his Director of National Intelligence (DNI).

Following a discussion on other problematic nominees, including ex-Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Fox News personality Pete Hegseth, Lemire stated there is a growing consensus that Gabbard is completely unacceptable and key U.S. allies are sending out warnings they will not share intel with her.

"What do you hear in talking to your sources in Washington at the edge of the intelligence community?" Morning Joe regular Mike Barnicle asked. "Do you hear the same thing that a lot of other people are hearing: that the British, the French, the Israelis, are coming in with hints that, you know, we're not going to share intelligence, our intelligence with Tulsi Gabbard?"

"Yes. Current and former intelligence officers have expressed that fear and have heard that from their colleagues overseas saying there is going to be real reluctance to share some of their, those nation's, top secrets and intel with the United States," Lemire replied. "There are some concerns about Trump who, as we know, revealed intel, but Tulsi Gabbard in particular –– someone who voiced talking points that emanated from Moscow, has cozied up with the Syrians."

"There is real concern here that the nation will be less safe because allies aren't going to trust us with their intel," he added.

New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Great Britain are not going to share intelligence with Tulsi Gabbard.

As it should be.

The United States just became less safe, just as Putin wants.

so how good is their "no for an answer" when they don't know what is not being told to them?

We all know that trump is a security threat, he showed it in 2017 when he had the Russians at the white house and willingly provided top secret information that placed some of our allies in a very uncomfortable situation, and I believe that is when these countries stopped sharing selected top secret information.

This is a real problem, we are all here on a wait and see what is going to happen, even though we know the script, and it is horrendous.

The main one is Menwith Hill, said to be the largest spy base in the world. The collaboration/collocation extends at least as far as Cyprus.

There's little the UK can do about raw comint intercepts except kick the US out, which I can't see happening.

This link is a CND site, but to the best of my knowledge, the information in it is accurate: US/UK Spy and Communications Bases in the UK - https://yorkshirecnd.org.uk/us-uk-spy-and-communications-bases-in-the-uk/

Maybe one of the final things our allies can share with us is what they know about Gabbard's connections to foreign adversaries--leaked or otherwise.

That information surely won't come from the incoming administration, but we need to know once and for all what it is.

That the US intelligence apparattus has been making a contingency plan for years that they have put into effect as of 2 weeks ago. They are hiding sources, protecting data, and relying on our allies to hold our secrets until sanity can be restored here. Trumps first 4 year term destroyed decades worth of US intelligence, these people are protecting what was rebuilt under Biden right now. At least all of that is my hope.

Nobody should share anything with the U.S. as long as Putin is running the show.

It's simple. Hide or fake anything a country wouldn't want to show Putin or China. It would be smart of them to share fake info with Trump.

Gabbard will open up the files and give all our secrets to Putin. A LOT of people around the world are going to be tortured and murdered. Trump will enjoy that. Musk will create memes mocking them as losers.

It's almost inconceivable how much status the U.S. just lost, worldwide.

Since our allies can't trust our IC, the Homeland will be attacked and we will be blind. I'm sure the Dick Tator will claim that Aunt Tiffa or Uncle Ben Ghazi is responsible for them and that will fool some people. But after enough people are injured or worse, maybe, just maybe there will be severe repercussions for the monster and his enablers.

Knowing that Trump has spilled secrets in the past, and has had “shady” meetings with Russians, shared secret information in the middle of a country club that had guests in the room. Also, there were Chinese spies found “hanging around” Mar-a-Lago.

Of course there is a whole flock of other traitorous MAGAs Fat Donnie could choose from as a replacement nominee.

But, who knows? Maybe there are enough genuine patriots in our Intelligence Agencies, both overt and covert, to form a kind of shadow government and continue gathering intel which could be shared with our soon-to-be former allies. (More than a little wistful thinking there. But what else have we got?)
