Here are the candidates running for DNC chair

Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley
The Old Line State governor from 2007-15, O’Malley launched his bid Monday. He most recently served as the commissioner of the Social Security Administration.

Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party chair Ken Martin
Ken Martin launched his candidacy to be the next DNC chair Tuesday morning, touting his state party’s election results in Minnesota.

Rahm Emanuel
The U.S. ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel has expressed interest in running for the position, multiple outlets have reported.

Ben Wikler
Some Democrats have been calling Ben Wikler, chair of Wisconsin Democrats, to encourage him to run, Politico reported a week ago, citing people familiar with his thinking.

Howard Dean was the DNC Chair at that time, and I believe it was his 50 state strategy that led to the Democratic gains in 2006, and also helped Obama win as much as he did in 2008. Rahm Emmanuel, as Obama's chief of staff, completely sidelined Dean, and the 50 state strategy went away. Rahm Emmanuel is representative of what is wrong with the Democratic Party right now.

There were many explanations, but at the root you have the unpopularity of the Bush administration. Some time in mid 2005, the Iraq war was seen as a disaster with people like John Warner speaking of the need for a path out. Then there was Hurricane Katrina.

Much more credit should go to Howard Dean. His 50 state model meant we had good candidates in places that initially were written off by people like Emmanuel. Others who help fund and help people in these reach races were John Kerry and Wes Clark.
