Top Democrat On House Ethics Committee Calls For Release Of Gaetz Report
Congresswoman Susan Wild, the ranking member of the House Ethics Committee, has come out publicly in support of releasing the Matt Gaetz report that had been compiled by the Committee. In a new statement made to a small group of reporters, Wild stated:
It should certainly be released to the Senate, and I think it should be released to the public, as we have done with many other investigative reports in the past."
Wild further signaled that she was in favor of releasing the report to the general public, as would be customary if Gaetz were still in office and the Committee voted to release the report. Previously, the House Ethics Committee investigated allegations concerning drug use and sexual misconduct by Gaetz. Gaetz had been under investigation by the Department of Justice for similar conduct.
Last week, President-elect Donald Trump nominated Gaetz to serve as the next Attorney General of the United States, after which Gaetz resigned his post from Congress immediately. Unknown to the public at the time, the House Ethics Committee had been planning to vote on the release of its investigatory report into the Gaetz allegations just two days later.
