LANSING, Mich. (AP) Just a week after winning several of the nations largest Arab-majority cities, President-elect Donald Trump has filled top administration posts with staunch Israel supporters, including an ambassador to Israel who has claimed there is no such thing as Palestinians.
Meanwhile, the two Trump advisers who led his outreach to Arab Americans have not secured positions in the administration yet.
The selections have prompted mixed reactions among Arab Americans and Muslims in Michigan, which went for Trump along with all six other battleground states. Some noted Trumps longstanding support for Israel and said their vote against Vice President Kamala Harris was not necessarily an endorsement of him. Others who openly supported him say he will be the final decisionmaker on policy and hope he will keep his promise of achieving an end to the conflicts in the Middle East.
Albert Abbas, a Lebanese American leader whose brother owns the Dearborn, Michigan, restaurant Trump visited in the campaigns final days, stood beside the former president during that visit and spoke in support of him.
Now, Abbas says its too early to judge Trump and that we all need to take a deep breath, take a step back and let him do the work that he needs to do to to achieve this peace.

(1,940 posts)Relative to "back-stabbing" I mean.
FAFO turns out to be quite universal and predictable - it really doesn't care what side you're on, but it does follow the sequence of events. Sort of like the law of every action (and non-action?) having a reaction.
A lesson for all.

(64,318 posts)The Biden efforts toward a two-state solution were rejected by these Muslim Arab groups. They preferred to elect a madman to do what they really want - let other countries wipe Israel out, along with all its citizens.
Once Israel is gone, there will be "peace."
However, Trump never pays his bills or keeps his promises. If something happens, it's entirely down to whether it benefits him or his owner, Vlad Putin.
Rubio's feckless behavior may cause WWIII, but the outcome of wars is uncertain.
Iran - Muslim but vehemently not Arab - will have a new ayatollah soon. He sounds pretty intense.
Meanwhile, the Saudis watch and wait and Putin plots world domination. Not a great time to elect a madman to the U.S. presidency.

Could be why many stayed home too. Genocide may tend to depress the vote, not that I've seen any discussion of that. Self-reflection is hard.
Now if a genocide of Arabs/Muslims is something that makes you go Yeehaw! or makes you look away or rationalize or deny it - then you wouldn't understand the Mulsim/Arab vote. You might even use the opportunity to confirm your fears of anti-semitism by a semitic people.
"Biden efforts towards a two-state solution"...
Now that I've picked myself off the floor, l have just one thing to say about that:
YOU CAN'T BE FUCKING SERIOUS??!!
As for nuclear war, we have NEVER been closer to one than since oh, the last couple of days. When the present is so frightening, it's kind of redundant, as well as deflective, to scare-monger about the future.
I'll leave you with a thought. If the current Administration were funding a genocide that killed oh at least about 200,000 Israelis, and in reality probably a few hundred thousand more - would you be able to bring yourself to vote for that Administration?
I'm just saying, have some human understanding of human limits. You really can't know unless you were standing in their shoes. As you cannot know what it's like for them to witness 13 months of atrocities against them, with no pushback from their own government. Must be pretty infuriating and depressing. That at least shouldn't be hard to understand, as surely they are just as human as you and me.

(55,776 posts)There wasn't any "wait and see" from Arab-Americans with Biden and Harris, they demanded immediate action...
I'm really curious to know what the Trump campaign "outreach" to Arab-Americans was like... What exactly was the selling point that earned their vote? They didn't really swallow that bullshit about Trump boasting he could end all the fighting in the Middle East with just one phone call, right?

(64,318 posts)We are very disappointed, he said. It seems like this administration has been packed entirely with neoconservatives and extremely pro-Israel, pro-war people, which is a failure on the side of President Trump, to the pro-peace and anti-war movement.

(1,940 posts)I would add the renewed aerial assault and ground invasion and starvation of north Gaza a month before the election. How is that for good timing? Yet again, nothing was done to mitigate the horror, which now included the forcible transfer of the population.
Also campaigning with Liz Cheney, as well as Dick Cheney's endorsement were tone-deaf moves.People have long memories of the Iraq War and who war-mongered for it.
Bill Clinton's "help" didn't help either. He came down pretty strong and intractable on the Israeli side.
I think Blinken's decision not to enforce the law in order to continue pandering to Israel was seen exactly for what it was. The timing couldn't have been worse.
I read all these FAFO and other angry comments with horrified fascination. It's as if Muslim/Arabs are not allowed to be simply human or are not recognized as victims. Hence no awareness of the victim-blaming and deflection so prevalent. It's sad to see.

(56,518 posts)That concern is of no concern whatsoever to me. If something evil happens to any relatives of theirs "back home," I put it squarely on their backs. No "I made a mistake" counts with me. They knew what they were doing when they cast their votes. The least they can do is own it--especially when their relatives in the Middle East suffer because of it. When they are denied mercy visas by the Trump Administration, even when their US relatives offer to foot 100% of the bill, if those relatives voted for Trump, they have no one but those relatives to blame.
Second thoughts? Misgivings? You are not in the second grade any more. Own it. Tell your relatives straight out what you just did to/for them. You didn't own the libs. You slammed the door in the faces of your family.
