Can anyone share any details as to what Biden, Harris and other Democratic leaders - who still hold the reigns of power - are doing in the wake of the disaster? I feel like they've all gone radio silent and are doing nothing to try to insulate the institutions of our government from the coming storm. I understand - and am not advocating - the same type of Jan 6 mentality that drove the brown shirts back in 2020 - but given what Trump plans, I can't believe our leaders are treating this like a normal transition of power. What the $%$#$ is going on?

(25,223 posts)That is what the Senate should be doing.

(3,643 posts)I am not very impressed with the lack of communication from the majority of our side's elected officials in D.C. We need some form of reassurance that those of us who are not invested in the orange savior, will still have leaders working to protect us from at least some of the fallout, even if they cannot prevent all of it.
In my view it's still their job. I am proud of the Democratic Governors who promise to strengthen blue state protections, but they can't do it alone.

(10,221 posts)So something like a Senate floor speech laying out policy plans isn't really going to get a lot of oxygen right now.
Just the media world we live in, unfortunately.
Hard to sift through all the craziness right now . . .

(81 posts)But our leaders just do seem to understand how to get the rank and file engaged. They could/should be sending out talking points around which we can rally and energize. We could learn a lot from the 'Cons in this specific regard . . . .

For me personally, it's very disappointing.

People who have money will never give the Great Vulgar (us plebes) the means to usurp the power of the wealthy.
Some of us have known this all along.

(81 posts)I am not advocating anything like what happened on 1/6. But the fact that are leaders appear to be meekly accepting what happened significantly undercuts/undermines what they were saying before the election about Trump's threat to Democracy. To that "majority" of America, it looks like it was just a campaign tactic, rather than a real warning. Yeah, we "lost", but isn't the message even more important now? Trump has never once been penalized for throwing out the norms - this Country appears to love that. How about we throw out the norm of meekly accepting the election and going silent and start telegraphing how we are going to fight to preserve our Republic?

(541 posts)I think our leaders are relying on us, the so-called grass roots (grunts, pawns, worker bees) to do that work.
Leaders who speak up now will get a leg-up on the next elections! C'mon, who wants to be the next president?

(12,817 posts)What does that mean - to your own mind? Specifics please. Otherwise you're just mouthing tired mantras and waving more pom-poms. (and we have plenty of that, thanks!)

(28,925 posts)And should not be pushed as viable or normal. To put it another way, would you tell a beaten wife that she needs to just quietly accept her abuse, don't be loud, and don't question why her husband beats her? Same thing on a national scale.

It's in the news, but you do have to read past the first page to find it.

Meanwhile, all of my posts calling for a massive GOTV effort sank like rocks on DU. Go figure...

(19 posts)Show those of us who fought this battle with you some freakin' leadership!
Great to work on legislative stuff, but there are 17 Dem governors and about 160 elected Democrats. Surely a few of them could show up for us with rally calls and statements on their plans to fight Trump's administration.
Use the major networks (money talks), liberal podcasts, any medium they can buy and talk to us, FFS!
Frankly I think Harris should be the first to show her determination.
Edit: whoa, Way off the number of Dems in Congress. About 260 Dems. Thanks Wiz Imp for the numbers.

(2,467 posts)But, absolutely no communications from Biden, Harris, Jefferey's, Pelosi, or any Democrat.
Nothing from them on how we proceed or what they are doing to ensure the integrity of the election.
Considering it is the Democratic Party leadership that lost the election for us, they could at least give their plan moving forward.

(81 posts)that our leadership lost the race - the disinformation echo chamber was huge. Regardless, I agree 150% that our leadership needs to step up now, more than ever, and start messaging and shaping the debate. That's a key aspect of learning from the Republicans without compromising our principles.

(2,467 posts)This act allowed monopoly ownership of as many media outlets as an entity wants.
Republicans immediately and continually moved to obtained as many media stations as they could.
The Democratic Party Leadership did nothing. And continue to do nothing.
So yes misinformation runs rampant because Democratic Party Leadership does nothing to fight it.

(388 posts)I guess there is no bother to communicate to the base about the future and what we should do.
I get the secret strategy and not letting that out but at minimum let us know your meeting and discussing strategies. Get out there and talk and lead.
