talking to Rev. Al Sharpton. After yesterday's Joe & Mika total capitulation after their MLA trip, I'm done.
I likewise saw 30 seconds or so of Ari Melber yesterday sane-washing/normalizing everything talking about Gaetz and that moron Fox host up for DOD as though these were expected kinds of nominations. In that annoyingly, cloying voice while talking about their sexual assault "accusations" while all but chastising those who believed them. Same truly annoying voice and affect he used to interview Joseph Goebbels (er, Stephen Miller).
I know NBC is under assault--especially given who TSF has named for head of the FCC, but OMG. The "talent" are going to single-handedly take down this part of both parts of the network. They are acting like Chuck Todd during his worst period when he just could not get enough of MAGAs on his show and reacted as though they defecated gold.
As if I was not fighting depression and demoralization enough--with everything I and my fellow compatriots in my circle have left...
Well, I just can't assist in the sell-out. My $$ will go to The Guardian and a handful of print and online sites. My access to MSNBC/CNN will be by occasional podcasts or TuneIN radio for programs I know have not totally capitulated to the incoming Fascists.

(30,076 posts)If you're gonna watch it, you might as well change the channel to FOX if that's the kind of news you're looking for.

(106,472 posts)address the issue of Gaetz and his unreleased ethics report. The comparison was John Ensign (former Senator Nevada, R) whose affair with a staff member led him to buy off those who tried to hold him accountable. He eventually resigned and confessed, and the ethics report WAS RELEASED regardless of his resignation sometime later.
Where she went with her show after that, I can't say. Like many, I'm not sleeping well so I needed to try for some catch-up sleep.

(6,658 posts)I have been basically severely depressed since the election, when depression is considered not the opposite of happiness but the opposite of vitality. Really feeling there was no point in anything, although I hoped to get over that reasonably soon.
All this by way of introduction to the fact that the bit that I watched of last night's Rachel happened to give me a modicum of hope and cause me to actually take a couple of actions. This was progress for me.

I do want to very quickly send a quick message to all the pollsters, the election pollsters: blow me, Stewart said. I dont ever want to hear from you again. Ever. You dont know shit about shit. I dont want to hear, Well figure it out next year, oh we were within the margin of blow me.

MSNBC is corporate media and most of the hosts had normalized or have started normalizing Trump. That network's viewership will drop like a meteorite. I partially unplugged from MSNBC but still watch The Reidout, Velshi, and The Weekend. I'm still thinking about returning to Maddow and/or O'Donnell but haven't decided yet. Listen to more of SiriusXM's Progress Channel and Brian Tyler Cohen's podcast.

(569 posts)A couple years ago, I went totally streaming, so I have no cable or network news. I watch podcasts, such as The Bulwark, Meidas Network, those naughty ladies of IHIP. I usually stream only one service, for economic reasons, when there is a new Outlander or Avengers or Resident Aliens series etc. Youtube has lots of other content besides politics, such as art, history - lately I've been following Rocky Kanaka's doggie rescue. Best of all, Music - oldies or current, releases, concerts, interviews, docs. I love the choices available and flexibility of this new way of viewing TV.
Some MSNBC clips show up on Youtube, and I will check it out, usually Lawrence, Nicole or Rachel. Dismayed but not surprised that Joe and Mika visited Trump. I don't care to hear about compromise and kumbaya. I turned them off after 5 minutes.

(24,214 posts)I watched 20 min. of Lawrence last night, most of any host I've seen since slasher day, in which all our hopes and dreams were slashed to install a distopian fascist leader.

(49,730 posts)after the ageism attacks on Joe and quit entirely after the election. Last night I finally clicked on Rachel and watch for fifteen minutes. That was enough. Too much business as usual for me.
Meanwhile, I can't imagine ever watching Morning Joe again under any circumstances. What on earth were they thinking?
lark
(24,214 posts)I didn't watch them at all until they turned on tsf and now I can go back to not watching news in the am. I still read it here, don't have such a visceral reaction to reading as I do hearing and seeing it on tv. Even here though, I'm not reading everything the way I used to. I pick and choose and skip a lot because I just can't take it.
I skim through headlines here and in my email, but I can only read so much and still remain somewhat sane.
Meanwhile, I really couldn't handle Joe Scarborough's paternalistic bullying on the Joe even when he was talking reason. I can't imagine ever watching that show again under any circumstances.

I'd rather read the news without the inane chatter and the commercials anyway, but of course that's just my random opinion.

(206 posts)I canceled all MSM. MSNBC was hard for me. I was never on Twitter, so a little confused on the whole deal. People were flocking to Bluesky so I decided to check it out. Everyone is on there from the Guardian, Marc Elias, Maya Wiley, Ruth Ben-Giat, Heather Cox Richardson, Mother Jones, the Atlantic, Meidas Touch, the Nation, I could go on and on. I am following 121 accounts so far. I've got news coming out of the wazoo. Other than having the tv on with my morning coffee, I am not missing anything. Just have to shift my habits and change to the new paradigm.

(20,470 posts)did a rather extended explanation of her show's coverage of TSF, basically saying they have to cover him and it doesn't mean they like him. Apparently word of the Morning Joe backlash has been circulating.
