Marjorie Taylor Greene demands America gets a divorce.

An outraged Greene (R-GA) on Monday urged a national split from Democratic states whose lawmakers, and voters, have expressed criticism of President-elect Donald Trump.

One minor problem Ms Greene fails to understand is that the blue states financially support the red states. Absent some sort of alimony, they’ll be impoverished and without Social Security or Medicare.

Not sure she’s thought this through.

Very complicate to pull off, but we may be left with no choice.

A house divided cannot stand. -- Lincoln

Only a fool fights in a burning house. -- Kang, Star Trek, The Day of the Dove

We're on fire. -- Me

The time has come, the wise one said, when we must all decide.
We cannot carry on this way, and so we must divide.
The road before us goes both way, so which one do you choose.
But all will not go well if you refuse. -- The Alan Parsons Project, Upper Me

Many states aren't really red or blue, they're a mixed bag. There's no state or region of the country where there's unanimous agreement that they're all Republican or all Democratic.

The Democrats in Alabama are just as important as the ones in Massachusetts. There are just fewer of them. Likewise, Republicans in Massachusetts are just as bad as the ones in Alabama; they're just outnumbered.

It was terrible. Muslim Indians were driven from places they had lived for centuries, neighbor murdered neighbor, people lost everything in the move.

I am against secession or any other split-up of the USA. It’s a fantasy, and trying to make it reality would lead to the bloodbath Steve Bannon lusts for.

You know, religion? It's the great unifier. You got Hindus and Muslims.

So, can't live with them, can't live without them?

Of course, it would be for the best if the country stays unified. What if the bloodbath occurs anyway?

As I said, you should acquaint yourself with even a little of the history of the separation in the 20th century. You can take it from there.

Religion? What are we to do with Evangelicals and White Christian nationalists? Trad Catholics?

The people who really crave to have the US come apart are: Putin, White Christian Nationalists, Steve Bannon (a Leninist) , Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy (egomaniacs) . Bannon and his cohort want to burn the country down, burn down the federal government, and dance in the rubble.

You are in bad company.

and seems like a receipe for at least two civil wars rather than just one.

Neither the tens of millions of Republicans in California nor the tens of millions of Democrats in Texas are too likely to go quietly into the night.

We also have way too many nukes, we have a responsibility to humanity to defeat the nutjobs in some fashion that doesn't increase chaos to the point that some portion of that arsenal gets out of pocket.

Greene is an idiot. So is Balaji Srinivasan who wants the same “divorce” and is a California tech bro of the Vivek Ramaswamy type shilling some sort of fake school (these guys do fit a sort of type):

https://www.wired.com/story/network-school-balaji-srinivasan/

(As an aside I find these tech bro-creeps fascinating. Their worldviews are so lousy and so many of them want to “rule the world”. We have to sound the alarm about these creeps especially with Musk and Ramaswamy etc out to destroy the govt now. Indeed arguably red parts of blue ca are cradles for some of the worst of these ideas in the last few decades. I posted about that here ( the links in the post not my meandering ) and DUer Hekate said it is worthwhile to keep spreading the word :
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=19736813).

People want to reduce life to such reductive patterns. It is not true of course that there are no patterns or that data doesn’t tell you stuff.

That argument reminds me of the guy (and sorry but it’s usually a guy ) who says all nutrition science is bullshit using the anecdote that his grandfather ate steak everyday, drank a six pack, never exercised and lived to be a 100.

Sure, but most people who live like that will lead significantly shorter and unhealthier lives than those who do take care of their health.

But it is similarly reductive to attach salience to a few broad patterns here and there and to eschew more complete models that are rigorous and tested.

Hard to do in discussions as complex as ones related to the state of our connected world, its communication systems, technology’s effects and so on :-/.

But these ideas about the blue-red divorce are as common with the jerks of Si Valley as they are on more legitimately frustrated parts of the left. The former arguments make me wary. The latter are frustration I understand.

The former are as simplistic and crass as: wealth good, me wealthy, me good and genius, all else unfit and stupid, me make the world and they should all die . I have a hope that the public at large will first weary of these tech bros and take steps to reign in their shitty tools where they are quite legitimately destructive to democracy and the planet as a whole.

I have suggested, here, we may end up at that crossroads. Here is why I think it will never work. I believe the bloodlust in their hearts is so much they will come into the new territory and try to slaughter us all. It would be too much for them to resist. I know we would have military and guns, but it would still be nasty.

And the matter of a bunch of federal resources which would need to be redistributed.

Greene married Perry Greene in 1995 while in college. They have three children. Perry Greene announced in September 2022 that he was filing for divorce and that their marriage was "irretrievably broken". On December 22, 2022, the divorce was finalized.

Her now ex-husband pulled the trigger on the marriage after media reports revealed that the neophyte politician had repeatedly cheated with other men, including polyamorous tantric sex guru Craig Ivey and the manager of the local gym she frequented.

She's made a career of violating her various "oaths". It's who she is. She hasn't been long in Trump's inner circle because she hasn't been killing pets or raping kids. If you want to be the diamond in Donny's eye, you've got to compete with his anti-social legacy. The worse you are, the higher you rate with Donny.

So what will happen if Gaetz and Noem and the rapist from Fox (Hegseth?) all somehow get legitimately rejected? What's Trump's plan "B"? And who will be the "hard act to follow" the first reject? Will Trump go legit with other picks? And if so, who on earth will accept his nomination?

All right then, pull all funding for red states, pull the military out of those states, revoke aid to these states including Social Security and Medicare, and see how they fare. Oh by the way, if a major disaster like a tornado, hurricane, or whatever comes, they are on their own. To give examples of how ungrateful they are, when Texas had that big freeze in 2021, guess who was president? That's right, Biden was! When Hurricane Ian in 2022 and Hurricane Helene hit earlier this year, both really deadly hurricanes, who was president? Yep Biden. How about the deadly tornado in December 2021 that hit Kentucky? I mean, I could list several more. But last I checked, did Biden/Harris step up in the face in these disasters? I'm pretty sure they did. A friend of mine in California, a state who they much malign, even went on a two-week trip to North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. This really shows how ungrateful they are. If it were me, I would have said, "All right, you are on your own, don't come crying to us when things get bad you ungrateful fools."
