President Joe Biden's apparent green light for Ukraine to strike Russia with US-made long-range missiles has caused consternation among some of Donald Trump's allies.
Trump himself has not commented, but he won the election after promising to end the war - and several people close to him have condemned the move as dangerous escalation.
Biden has committed tens of billions of dollars to Kyiv's war effort, and at the weekend he reportedly ditched a long-standing red line on Ukraine's use of American weaponry to launch attacks deep into Russia.
Donald Trump Jr tweeted that the president was trying to "get World War Three going" before his father took office.
Biden's decision has not been formally confirmed and it may never be.
When asked about how typical it would be for a presidential administration to take such a significant policy decision in its final months, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Biden was "elected to a four year-term, not a term of three years and 10 months."

(46,995 posts)We know Russia won't do anything about it because their boy Trump will be in power in 60 days.
Biden is reminding the American people that the US stands with its democratic allies. It will be quite a shift when Trump CAVES to the Dictator's will and whatever fallout happens in Europe.

(82 posts)certain orange man making all sorts of commitments in Afghanistan in the last weeks of 2020 to complicate the situation for Biden; but of course the media praised him for his "statecraft" and then, a nano-second after Joe took the oath of office, started screaming about how incompetent he was because the situation was a mess.
Folks, there are a number of reasons why we didn't win two weeks ago, but the biggest one is that the mainstream and rightwing media (including social media) continues to pedal sanewashing, gaslighting and outright lies 24/7. Until we figure out how to counter or drown that incessant noise out, a good chunk of the voting population will be beyond our reach.

(2,671 posts)Just like trump left a mess in Afghanistan for Biden to get blamed for, Biden is finally throwing it back at them. He's making it harder for Trump to do what he wants to do. Maybe it's time for Russia to suffer consequence and be bombed to oblivion.

that would indicate he makes big decisions based on pettiness. Please dont try to paint him with TSFs brush.
Russia escalates by trying to take out much of Ukraines energy production, just as winter is setting in
and bringing 10,000 foreign soldiers into the battle
and Ukraine cant retaliate? F that!!

(7,942 posts)Funnily enough, that was precisely the line, with a few variations in phrasing, the MAGAbots on Twitter were spouting last night, in chorus with Putin-supporting accounts. They couldn't be more blatant, or predictable and repetitious (they do it every time Ukraine gets a break).
