(25,267 posts)I had a friend at work from India and he told me you just relieve yourself in the street.
He was lucky, he was from Kerala. We made good money, when he retired he went to a poor country with a religious group.

(38,580 posts)Illegal mining impoverishes humans and ruins ecosystems there, where inhabitants have no say in their government or economy, either, and struggle to survive. Bitcoin economies will not solve these problems.
Rio Tinto in SA and other mining companies should be named.

Measuring corruption isn't enough. There's no international law enforcement on world polluters.

I think they should separate mining pollution from nastiness associated with water and sanitation problems. Many countries are victims of Western exploitation.
And who would "they" be. International Law applies, but it doesn't seem to enforce against polluters of either East or West. Pollution doesn't land as the sole responsibility of the West. Don't forget, China is at the top of world pollution. Much of the Pacific garbage patch comes from illegal Chinese fishing and land waste.

(38,580 posts)In actions and outcomes, they do seem close to farce, we can't overlook the facts of The Hague having enforced some international law over time.
Since the COP28 in Dubai looks to be a bust, I have to believe, given the scarcity of pollution enforcement, that our only hope is in the the only true international regulation done by our Navy over all the oceans.
It's a fact that the U.S. military was the first to declare climate change its top national security priority.
The US military first officially recognized climate change as a security threat in the 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review, where the Obama administration identified it as a serious factor to consider in future national security planning.

When Joe Biden goes, climate mitigation will go from good willed insufficiency to total deviltry by nameable hoarding and hiding global extractors.

(38,580 posts)Maybe around DU it seems big. But DU isn't representative of America or the globe.
Find recent polls that show garbage everywhere actually is a pretty big issue. Otherwise I'm not buying it.

(17,844 posts)What would you call it instead? Top 10 countries with too much garbage? I also disagree about your comment on the women. Nudity (or semi-nudity) doesn't have to be sexual. There is nothing in that picture that shows that it is.
Martin68
(24,611 posts)If the topic is countries where garbage is accumulated is the topic, why does it start with a photo of 4 semi-nude women of color (obviously photoshopped to cover one woman's nipples) squatting in mud? There's no garbage there, unless the person who created the video considers these women to be garbage.

(18,127 posts)By those of us in reasonably affluent countries taking the time to educate themselves and carefully examine their own use of products made from the natural resources at issue.
Of course, little can be done to correct the problem of people not caring.

Sad, what is happening worldwide, there and here, too.

They haven't quite cracked the code for authentic sounding narration.
