How to Bounce Back From Cruelty
If placed in certain environments, any of us is capable of cruelty.

…Researchers have seen a correlation between sadism (gaining pleasure from the pain or humiliation of others) and the Dark Triad personality types. Folks whose personalities fall into what has been renamed the Dark Tetrad, or the Dark Quad, are more likely to engage in online harassment and trolling.
Salman Akhtar, psychoanalyst and professor of psychiatry and human behavior, finds cruelty appears in all religious, ethnic, and national groups (Akhtar, 2024). He outlines five features of human cruelty:
Destructive
Intentional
Pleasurable to the perpetrator
Inhumane
Unethical
…To contend with the effects of cruelty, Akhtar suggests we all work to cultivate the character traits of courage, resilience, gratitude, generosity, forgiveness, and sacrifice. Resilience, he notes, does not merely stem from the constitution of the individual but from the support of the wider culture.
Akhtar identifies three important ways we can combat human cruelty:
Education
Empathy-building
Victim empowerment

I know it has been said before, but the Trump GOP (or just the GOP now since it is the same) manifests this Tetrad. The proposed GOP appointments and even the previous Supreme Court Justice appointment, of Justice “I like beer” , fit the mold.
This November was a hinge of fate election and we suffer because we know their cruelty is coming. Yet the resilience of us is the fundamental way to claw back our collective humanity. I will practice these traits and ,maybe like Scrooge in my old age, these traits will strive within me. So I will just start with gratitude. I am grateful I got to vote for VP Harris and heard that good work is hard work. I am grateful we can share our opinions here and the richest man in the world still can’t stop us.
