Why isn't Bernie telling Republicans what they need to do?

The Republicans won everything. They hold all levers of power. If Bernie was really the champion of the working class, he would redirect all his efforts to challenging the Republicans and speaking out against their efforts to roll back all worker rights and protections. But he still is only attacking Democrats still. This is why I view him as a fraud. He talks a good game, but what has he actually accomplished in all his years in Congress? I have more respect for Elizabeth Warren and AOC, because they are more likely to enact real change.

He and Angus King, are independents who caucus with the Democrats.

His views are well known and he is popular in his state. He is often seen doing normal things like going to the local grocery store.

I get that some here react strongly whenever he criticizes anything done by Democratic leaders, ignoring that after we lose an election MANY Democrats opine on where the candidate and party went wrong.

I have always found most of those attacks unfair and tending to have an underlying message that the speaker is thinking someone more like me would have won. It is not just Bernie and people like him, I remember the unfair Bill Clinton comments after both Gore and Kerry lost.

I wish that ALL Democrats and allies would stay quiet on postmortems for at least a few months so those of us still hurt by the loss can at least reach a point where it is not a fresh pain. I get that losses are always going to be followed by reexamining what we could have done better and why we lost.

Some reasons may have no easy solution. People saying anything starting with "we needed to get out our message on ..." need to see that it might not be the "message", but the lack of trusted channels through which we can reach nearly half the country. That is something a candidate even in a normal primary/general election can't do.

Over the decades, we have allowed "news" channels to exist and develop that are rarely held accountable for lying. The bar for a public person to challenge them for libel or slander is very high. Not winning such a case would be devastating as it would be misconstrued. It was only when Fox and others demeaned Dominion, a company, that they were successfully sued.

It seems the three biggest issues we lost on were immigration, economy and the despicable demonization of some of the most vulnerable people, trans. On each, correcting disinformation may not have helped much.

On immigration, Republicans used several tactics to exploit underlying xenophobia. They used everything from some tragic stories of young women killed to lies about immigrants being given more than some of poorest citizens have to claims that immigrants were taking jobs to pure smears like Haitians eating cats and dogs.

On the economy, the Biden administration did a remarkable job. However, the Republicans were able to get enough people to consider only the preCovid part of Trump's term. Trump inherited a thriving economy. He passed his unsustainable tax cuts that were a large part of the root of our current inflation and deficit problems. However in 2018 and 2019, they stimulated the economy. The problem was that it was hard for many to see Biden did a great job dealing with the many interrelated economic problems he inherited while Trump took the strong Obama economy and created the mess Biden inherited.

My husband watched the world series. I think in every game, there were terrible ads that cherry picked Harris comments on treatment for Trans in prison and other Trans issues. I honestly do not have any idea how Democrats could have responded. On the prison treatment, the policy had been the same under Trump.

Bernie knows that. But when something inadvertently falls out of trump's mouth that will help people, Bernie will jump on it knowing it will just be another empty promise but something that people desperately need and he'll fight for it, but republicans won't and THAT is what we must resist, that they talk the talk but obstruct anything and everything that doesn't benefit the rich, and ridiculously high interest rates for consumers is a rich man's wet dream.

Bernie Sanders has and always will be on our side and will always resist right wing extremism and funneling money to the rich, even when Democrats do it.

Credit card interest and the raw greed behind it should have been mentioned a few times during the campaign.. enough to get the attention of the media and possible trickle down to the damn non rich fools who voted trump and are crushed by credit card debt. It's true that high interest rates are probably blamed on Jews so regulating them could be seen in that light, I just don't know. Sometimes the Bernie hate on this platform is so visceral gives me pause, so you're not far out there.
That said, I know is friends who had to put a medical or dental procedure or a car repair on a credit card and 10 years later are still paying for it. It's a crushing debt with the banks charging 19-20% There is no way in hell republicans will do anything to stop the banks from doing this, but I wish Democrats had addressed it in their campaign. I do think it would resonate with many people much more than not taxing tips.
Bernie's not going to be working with trump, but he will support anything that he believes will help people. I absolutely trust his judgment on that.

Over the years, our enemies have spent as much energy drowning out Bernie's message as they have on our own. Why would that be? Would it be because Democrats have set speed records stepping away from any label of "socialism" to the extent they have trouble being identified in the minds of actual voters as anything except LGBTQ and pro-choice supporters. Both of which, no matter how fundamentally relevant, tend to alienate the electorate. We should have bought in and carried the "socialist" name high. It would have been relatively easier to demonize the greedy 1% than to convince people hypnotized by high egg prices that they need access to sex change and abortion rights. If someone has been sleeping for 25 years, they may be excused for not appreciating the irony that the party of oligarchs is gaining middle class support by condemning Democratic economic policies as liberal wastefulness and inflationary incompetence while pointing at the failure of their own policies for examples. Our response is "don't use or even get close to the socialist word", people have been taught to hate that word. All the while, Republicans have convinced a slim majority that feudalism is utopia and Democrats can't perform basic arithmetic.
So, go ahead and pillory Bernie. That's a great cause and will set us up for unlimited success in the mid-terms..

He had a reputation of being honest and forthright. It was appealing to people who were fed-up with party politics.

When he lost the primary to Hillary, his right-leaning voters went back to where they came from, the Republican party.

The ones on the far left went to Jill Stein.

Despite his efforts to convince them that Trump was the worst possible choice, Bernie had no control of these votes after he lost.

Those votes were never ours to own. They were on loan.

There are so many battles to fight. Wise politicians choose their battles wisely.

This OP was about Bernie seeking to limit credit card interest to 10%. (Sounds good, but I doubt it will go anywhere.)

25. Sanders produced Biden's major bills that got passed
Sun Nov 17, 2024, 11:27 AM

With Biden’s ability to get Congress to pass legislation and Sander’s ‘for the people’ legislation, Biden is by far one of the best presidents we have ever had.

It was Sanders’ committees that produced the legislation. It’s the populist agenda.

Trump used the populist platform in 2016 and ‘won’.

So say what you want about Senator Sanders, but he knows what most Americans want.

And really, you expect Sanders to try to get repubs to do the right thing, when it’s just as difficult to get Democrats to do the right thing?

never mind.

* high commas, sometimes spelled: Haiku is a type of short form poetry that originated in Japan and can be traced back from the influence of traditional Chinese poetry. Traditional Japanese haiku consist of three phrases composed of 17 morae (called on in Japanese) in a 5, 7, 5 pattern;[1] that include a kireji, or "cutting word";[2] and a kigo, or seasonal reference. However, haiku by classical Japanese poets, such as Matsuo Bashō, also deviate from the 17-on pattern and sometimes do not contain a kireji. Similar poems that do not adhere to these rules are generally classified as senryū.[3]

..............................................

The Biden Admin did this, not Sanders.

8 Ways the Biden Administration Is Improving the Lives of Service Workers
The Biden administration is raising pay, building power, and improving living standards for service workers across the economy—including fast-food cooks, call center workers, teachers, home care workers, and federal employees.
The Biden administration has received ongoing attention for its actions to improve the lives of blue collar workers—from walking the picket line with striking autoworkers to ensuring that its signature investments in American industry create good jobs. Pundits and the press often point to actions to expand and raise standards in the construction and manufacturing sectors as central to the Biden administration’s economic agenda. Yet the administration has also taken numerous steps to boost the earnings and wealth of service sector workers, empower them to come together in unions, and hold accountable corporations that violate their rights.

Raising standards in the service sector affects workers across the economy—from baristas and call center workers to teachers and federal employees—and is essential to a strong middle class. Today, working-class Americans, defined as those without a four-year college degree, are primarily employed in service sector jobs. And research shows that policies to boost wages and benefits for service sector workers help narrow racial pay gaps, reduce turnover and support a well-qualified workforce.
1. Advocating for service workers on the picket line
During last summer’s wave of worker strikes and organizing actions, the Biden administration met with worker organizers from Starbucks, video game producer Sega, and other unions at the White House to celebrate workers’ organizing successes. According to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, President Joe Biden expressed his “belief that worker power is essential to growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up.” In addition, the Biden administration has voiced support for labor actions by Hollywood actors and writers, as well as Amazon warehouse worker organizing. Furthermore, Biden administration appointees to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)—the independent agency that oversees union elections and enforces protections for private sector workers organizing unions and collectively bargaining—have issued several complaints and rulings against well-known companies such as Starbucks to remedy illegal activities, including retaliatory firings, withholding increases to wages and benefits, and closing stores.

90. What makes you think that he isn't? Bernie speaks to everyone about the issues and policies that are critical

to our nation, ie: healthcare, the need for strong unions, poverty, exorbitant student debt, climate change, etc. etc. be they Democrat, Republican or Independent.

I believe that Bernie believes that the Democratic Party as the party of the people is more likely to listen, but today with national, even global domination by American and International oligarchs over all branches of our government combined with Citizens United, and even that becomes a challenge.

That's one reason as to why he is always talking about dysfunctional wealth disparity ie: citing the 3 individuals who own more wealth than the bottom half of our nation, that didn't occur overnight, it happened over the past half century.

It was long term polices that created this situation and policies are the only thing that can change it, not the on going 24/7 drama of soap opera and horse race coverage by the corporate media during Presidential elections, that's just distraction.

To that end, issues and policies have to be addressed directly, you can't pussy foot around them with political bullshit, and Bernie stays on message better than any political leader that I've seen during my lifetime.

But I don’t think he’s sponsored a ton of really significant legislation.

It's time to criticize and shit-on the Republicans, and call-out what THEY are "doing wrong" and how THEY need to improve. Being a thorn in their side and a sharp pebble in their shoe is what's called-for now.

Technically he's not a Democrat!!!: rofl:

He's an Independent who caucuses with the Democrats. Often more than a few Dems do. He worked with our President Biden on a few things.

Bernie pretty much always demands entirelt unrealistic action. His plan is always that the "American People will rise up." That's NOT a plan. But as the shit rises to eye level, he can fling some of it a Democrats, even though he has accomplished very little during his career EXCEPT hurl insults at Democrats and weaken the party.

We have yet to try that method. When a bully punches you in the mouth it's okay to punch back, or in their case, a dose of their own.

Sanders Statement on Trump ‘Treason’ Comment

February 6, 2018

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement Tuesday after President Donald Trump accused members of Congress who did not clap during his State of the Union address of being un-American and treasonous:

“The great political issue now facing our country is not Democrat vs. Republican or progressive vs. conservative. It’s much deeper than that. It’s about democracy vs. authoritarianism.

“Today we have a president who is undermining the first amendment by consistently referring to media criticism as ‘fake news.’ He has questioned the authority of an independent judiciary. He has tried to make it harder for people to vote by wildly exaggerating the extent of voter fraud. He has viciously attacked those in law enforcement who have investigated him. And yesterday he suggested that members of Congress who don’t mindlessly stand and applaud his every word are guilty of ‘treason.’

“Our job now is to remind Trump and his allies what democracy is all about. By our grassroots activism we will defend President Lincoln’s words at Gettysburg when he stated ‘that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.’ Stand up. Fight back. Get involved.

By staying in a race he couldn’t win, heaping hate on Hillary, and encouraging his Bernie Bros to do damage to her campaign. I used to love, love, love Bernie until he screwed over Hillary. At least he didn’t run this time around. It also pisses me off that he abandoned the Dem Party when we need every person we can get in the Senate. What a waste….

Constant criticism about Dems not appealing to the working class shows how ancient he is. He needs to come to grips that his non college educated working class are the cult MAGA. This is not because Biden and Dems have not done everything for this class. On the other hand, the so called college educated elite millionaires he constantly gripes about have become more democratic than ever. These Dems do not want tax cuts for the rich. They are concerned about deficits.

Dems have to make an effort to find a language to talk about working class not voting against their interests. Why don't Bernie do that more? Does he have an organization to focus solely on that?
