Shapiro’s 2028 prospects rise sharply after Harris defeat

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) is being floated as a future standard-bearer for Democrats following the party’s stunning nationwide defeat on Election Day.

Shapiro, who made it to the final round of Vice President Harris’s running mate picks, has long been seen as a rising star within the Democratic Party. He has also received praise from Republicans for his bipartisan record as governor and enjoys popularity in Pennsylvania, a critical swing state Democrats lost at the presidential level this cycle.

Many Democrats argue Shapiro’s history of winning statewide, as well as his widespread popularity, makes him a figure to watch going into 2028.

“Any path for a Democrat to win the White House in 2028 likely also involves Pennsylvania,” said J.J. Balaban, a Democratic ad-maker based in the state.

“And someone who is uniquely popular in Pennsylvania is going to get a lot of attention, and that makes sense,” he continued.

Pennsylvania Democratic activists have expressed hope Shapiro will run for president in the future.

But do not underestimate the anti-Jewish prejudice in this country.

Face it, we need a 50-ish, experienced, white, male, Episcopalian (or similar flavor of Xtianity), preferably who served in the military and didn't have any clerical inconsistencies in their record. Who has solid government experience.

With reasonably liberal positions but not out of the mainstream. Oh and no inconvenient events that will piss off a major faction of usual Dem supporters (*cough*O'Malley*cough*Freddie Gray* )

Do we have that person? I sure hope so.

7. First of all - will there even be an election in 2028, I think it's unlikely.

Second - there are already so many top contenders -

Shapiro
Whitmer
Buttigieg (sp?)

If Putin allows us another election, we have a super deep and wonderful field. I'd love to see the above in a primary and have no idea who would win out?

Having elections is only one part of the battle, not even the most important piece.

It is a net negative to focus on if there will be elections, some of the most authoritarian governments have them like clockwork.

Who has the franchise, who can be on the ballot, who does the counting, and acceptance of the results is where the money that can be spent or invested is.

on his resume.

Walz was an odd choice, and Shapiro can read the PA crosstabs. I'm actually convinced that most of the Dem establishment understood what was going to happen after the Biden debate performance. Hail Mary it with Harris, but understand the odds. It was an inside straight draw at best, always.

And if Shapiro turned down Kamala's VP offer, you can guaran-damn-tee it would have already been reported because there surely would have been a leak about it.

The books are yet to be written on this one.

In the end, Harris did us all a great service, as did Walz.

so they don't have to turn it down much like some reports indicate that his ask for essentially being a co-President for who would be the first female President was too high an ante.
