The Opinions
The biggest divide in America today is not about race or gender, the Times Opinion columnist David Brooks argues. In this episode, he explains how the diploma divide can help us understand Donald Trumps overwhelming support from working-class Americans and what Democrats can do to win them back.

(1,175 posts)so I don't find it odd they elected another one - especially considering Robinson's insane posts about being a perv and a Nazi. I don't think race had anything to do with it. He did himself in.

(96,542 posts)by these so-called analysts is garbage. In fact thety contributed to the sane washing and the myth of the sociopath that will occupy the WH again.,
Oh, the "Democrats are too elitist". JFC, they just voted in the most elitist, anti-union, pseudo demigod and conman that the country has ever known.
This post election bullshit, is BULLSHIT.
and thanks to those self-identified progressives on the left who constantly undercut Democrat with their mythology how there was no different than "republicans or Democrats", they helped contribute to our loss in 2000, 2016, and 2024. They deserve everything that the sociopath does to them.
Unfortunately, they have also wrought the same fate on the rest of us.
So f**k it all as far as I am concerned.
and as for these so-called "working class Americans", who also gave us Reagan I might add, enjoy the sociopath, because you are going to have a grand time with him:
"NEW YORK (AP) A federal judge in Texas has blocked a new rule from the Biden administration that would have expanded access to overtime pay to millions more salaried workers across the U.S.
In a Friday ruling, U.S. District Judge Sean Jordan sided with the state of Texas and a group of business organizations that argued the Labor Department exceeded its authority when it finalized a rule earlier this year to significantly expand federal overtime eligibility for salaried workers."

(15,896 posts)But I think the above analysis also hits on some good points that educated liberals sometimes condescend to working class people. We can keep our same message without throwing anyone under the bus but still adjust the way we message. We need more Dems like Fetterman.

(17,648 posts)Have I got that right? They have no idea the subtle and/or overt sexism and or/racism women and/or POC face, they quite literally cant. At best, they can empathize but Im not sure either of them are capable of that. I know sexism on a visceral level, having been subjected to it. Racism? No, but I can have empathy for those who have been subjected to it.

(1,165 posts)The divide is the haves vs have nots. And they keep us have nots divided into little boxes. Divide and Conquer. Main thing with equality is income. With income comes power.

(3,987 posts)I do not have any pity for dump voters. Anybody who lies and lies and lies to the people, hurts people, is a felon, is a rapist and a pervert should not be qualified to lead a country.

(2,208 posts)The disaffected involves increasing taxes on the super rich to help insure that all, including those without diplomas, can get things such as universal healthcare, which a conservative such as Brooks is against.
Also the majority of those earning less than $30,000 voted for Kamala HarrisBrooks never considers these people
