The Founders never meant for the President to be a King or a Dictator

In fact, that is why we fought the Revolution - to rid ourselves of Kings and Authoritarians.

But somehow, 250 years later, we seem to have forgotten that part of our history.

We now have a leader who wants to be a strong leader, a Dictator, a King.

Somewhere along the line, our elected leaders gave the President more and more power over the Representatives of the People.

Well, if the President wants to do it, then we have to give him/her the benefit of the doubt and go along with his every whim.

It is the fault of our elected Representatives that have given the President powers that he was never meant to have by our Founders or by our Constitution.

Presidential powers should be cut off at the knees. We do not need a King and we surely do not need a Dictator. We need to get back to where we were when we fought the Revolution.

We need to overthrow the King.

Any suggestions as to how we do that, since an election didn't work? Ocelot II Friday #1

We plant the seed in people's consciousness. That is the first step.

From there it will be a process of educating and mobilizing opposition.

It will take a second revolution to rid ourselves of our present predicament, in my opinion.

It has been a progression. In his 1973 classic "The Imperial Presidency," Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., documented how all presidents had sought to expand presidential power by way of "national security." The only president who attempted to return to the Constitution's balance of powers was Jimmy Carter. Under bush/CHENEY, there was the single largest step in the direction of unintended executive power ...... until now, when the felon plans to hold ultimate power.

That is something that must be restrained by our elected officials. This is where I fault many Democrats for going along with the "strong executive" theory. This is the eventual product.

I think back to the 1990s, when the repulsive Newt Gingrich led the "contract on America." It was a purposeful attack on the power of the House in terms of accomplishing anything good, made for knee-capping future Democratic Party presidents, and creating an environment where republican executive's power expanded. bush/CHENEY followed.
