(17,641 posts)People will put off retirement if their job offers medical benefits. And the repukes will never win another election again.

(10,877 posts)... covered by Medicare.
Long-term care is only covered if you have purchased private long-term care coverage or are covered in your state through a state program like the one enacted in WA not too long ago.
When long-term care is needed, a person pays out of liquid assets. When liquid assets and any income is gone, the person qualifies for coverage through Medicaid. Long-term care is then paid for by SS income and Medicaid.
Prescriptions and durable medical equipment are still covered through Medicare, but the fees to a facility for long-term care are not covered by Medicare.
After death, if there is an asset like a family home (which you cannot be forced to sell while in long-term care), Medicaid "claws back" funds spent on care out of the sale of the property after death.
This is something people don't generally understand. The most expensive part of dying, long-term care, is not covered until you have "spent-down" all liquid assets and qualify for Medicaid.
And, BTW, if you have Medicare, stick to classic Medicare + a supplement.
I think they will not cut basic Medicare benefits with it's fucked up donut hole and all. I fully expect them to "reform" what Medicare Advantage providers can do in a way they will claim is a benefit, while actually cutting coverage substantially.

(159,240 posts)then they will turn in all over to private insurance
older folk simply won't be able to afford health insurance and repukes (and apparently ALL STUPID FUCKING TRUMP VOTERS) would be just FINE with that

(10,877 posts)I don't think even crazy GOPers are stupid enough to mess with "Classic Medicare". They will cut costs by "reforming" what Medicare Advantage providers can do in a way they'll claim is beneficial while substantially cutting benefits in very sneaky ways.

(159,240 posts)they are allowed to use extreme enticement and pressure tactics (LOOK AT THE EXTRAS!!!) and the low, even ZERO COST!!! to get people who are of modest means along with those who forgot the lesson of what sounds too good to be true - repukes designed it this way - GET 'EM HOOKED and then fuck them later

(10,877 posts)Last year Boeing negotiated a "deal" on behalf of it's retirees that replaced the hard-won Medicare Supplement they've had for more than a decade with a Medicare Advantage program through Aetna. Yes. The Medicare Advantage program my step-father now has is demonstrably better than the "standard" Aetna Medicare Advantage program, but it is nevertheless a scam compared to what they had. And retirees had no choice in the matter. Somewhere in the small f-ing print they gave up rights to object to this.
Skittles
(159,240 posts)because too many of us caught on to the scam and said NO THANKS - so per Project 2025 they will make MA the DEFAULT for all newbies to Medicare
they are doing this because when the majority are off of regular Medicare, the Medicare will cease to exist and it will all be turned over to private insurance - that is the ENTIRE GOAL of "Medicare Advantage"
a conservative wet dream come true

(1,943 posts)We are looking at 2 different entities here, one a business, the other a service. Voters overwhelmingly clamored to have a businessman make choices for them. That businessman believes public health costs are a burden on business and services should be reduced. The medical industry will be just fine and the public can rejoice in their desired victory
Don't get me wrong here - it stinks but the leopard is still hungry.

(29,789 posts)and replace it with Advantage. Once this happens they'll underfund it, costs for Advantage plans will sky rocket and consumers will have to pay more.
