Don't fall for this if it happens.

I'm not giving Trump credit for being smart but someone advising him may be.

Gaetz may be nominated, with the expectation that if Gaetz gets tossed it might convince a lot of people that next candidate is almost a sigh of relief.

The next one will likely be the same or almost as bad! Don't let people go "whoa, that's a relief". It probably won't be.

The anchoring effect, also known as anchor bias, is a psychological phenomenon in which people rely too heavily on the first piece of information they hear.

In other words, if you hear a certain fact or number (the “anchor”), it can strongly influence your subsequent judgments or decisions, explains Haley Hicks, a licensed clinical social worker in Dallas, TX.

His #2,#3, and #4 nominees at DOJ are all his personal lawyers. This way it doesn't look like the top 3 posts are going to them. They're just going to be acting in those roles.

he literally has to scrape bottom to find candidates now.

That is why his nominations are so laughably bad. That is how bankrupt his MAGA movement is.

Both are posturing. Both are scripted. Why the need to make it specifically Japanese, I wonder?

Maybe someone else figured it out. Google. Google... ah, here we go:

https://slate.com/human-interest/2010/04/it-s-time-for-pundits-to-stop-using-the-word-kabuki.html

I don't think it's theater, anyway. He'd be perfectly happy to have Gaetz as a vicious lapdog AG. It'd show Congress who was boss and set the tone for the rest of the term. I'm sure there are 20 other dickheads that would also be a vicious lapdog and might sail through confirmation easier, but from his point of view Gaetz is an excellent, horrific choice.

Not sure what we'd be "falling for" anyway. Any choice will be fucking terrible for Democrats and humans in general. We don't get a say in it.

Propping him up just to knock him down is theatrical.

They can’t (appear to) win EVERYTHING.

Fascism needs an “enemy”.
