MSNBC host Rachel Maddow joined her colleague Nicolle Wallace on Thursday afternoon to discuss the president-elect making good on his promise to appoint unqualified loyalists.
Maddow said it's time Americans "get real and realize this is really what we're up against."
She also believes that the absurd choices for Donald Trump's Cabinet are meant to shock people.
"It is meant to adjust our sense of what is normal, what is possible, and to sort of disorient us as to what it counts to propose governance in the United States that we're ready for the most radical pronouncements and actions," Maddow said. "And I do think we're supposed to feel the way we do right now. That's a part of it."
"It is a shock and awe campaign against American traditions and mores, and that's how most of the country feels about it," she said.

(43,108 posts)I have said we are seeing "fake" choices (stalking horses) and attempts to pwn the libs. Not surprised to see Rachel say something similar

And acting like the mentally unbalanced person that he's always been.

Perhaps both. Horrible to witness, feels surreal.

(20,015 posts)Loyal Americans are still in power, in charge, and they have a duty to this country to stop this travesty in its tracks.
I'm not interested in an interesting experiment to see if the Constitution of the U.S.A. allows a rapist, traitor and convicted felon to run for president and if he somehow gets more votes, to serve. I want the people who get elected and those they appoint to follow the law. If it means mass arrests right now of felons to thwart their naked grab for power, so be it. I want to see an experiment that demonstrates whether law abiding, duly elected officials and their appointees will draw the line and hold it. As a pissed off private citizen, I'll help.

(988 posts)Most of the country doesn't pay attention at all. Not the ones who didn't vote or follow anything to begin with and not the trump voters who don't pay attention to anything either. And the magats are fine with whatever he does. It's just the msnbc type folks, like us.

(65,421 posts)Trump got the votes of the selfish, the fearful, and the apathetic.
Now it's time to tear down the "intellectual elite," ie, the only ones paying attention. That's us.
I'm looking at how the Brits responded to the Nazi blitz. They defied, they fought back, and they won. We have a lot going for us - apparently we are the elite! The smart ones! The educated!
Let's fight.

(580 posts)Trump won the Presidency, and the Republlicans - who seem to be in lock-step with Trump - won both Houses of Congress. Whoever Trump nominates for office will surely be confirmed by a Republican Congress. Protests by Democrats (and others) will be waste of breath, of energy, and of postage.
Trump's appointees, or at least some of them, will screw up royally but they might yet stay in office to the bitter end; if they are made to leave they may be replaced by people who are no better.
We face four years in which experienced public servants will be pushed out, replaced by Trump Loyalists with substandard qualifications. After 2028 it may take many years to repair the damage Trump caused. But we are virtually helpless now to do anything to stop Trump's Crusade against competence.

(3,114 posts)Her "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" shtick since 2016 has really worn out its welcome with me.
Thankfully, I cut the cord back in 2020 so I'm no longer paying for any of them (Fox News, CNN, Disney, NBC Universal, the lot).

(3,114 posts)Do you welcome the person making the sky fall "back to the White House," be on a first-name basis with him, and pledge to work with his transition team? And then meet privately with him for an hour and a half? Because President Biden did. So clearly he doesn't think the sky is falling.
