John Clune, an attorney for an alleged victim of sexual misconduct, called on the House Ethics Committee to release its report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Clune's remarks came after Gaetz resigned from Congress Thursday to be President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for attorney general.

"Mr. Gaetz's likely nomination as Attorney General is a perverse development in a truly dark series of events," Clune wrote on X. "We would support the House Ethics Committee immediately releasing their report."

The attorney noted that his client "was a high school student, and there were witnesses" to Gaetz's alleged crimes.

The House Ethics Committee was investigating allegations against Gaetz related to sex trafficking, drug use, accepting improper gifts, and obstruction. The Department of Justice previously investigated Gaetz for potential sex trafficking of a minor but did not file charges.

The past 8 days have been really, really rough on those of us who love this country and our form of government. Our only hope is that there may be a few brave, patriotic, decent men and women able to come up with a strategy for saving us. Are there any GOP Senators or Representatives in states with a Dem Governor who would be willing to step down right now and allow a Dem governor to replace them with a Democratic Senator or Representative? They could run again later, but right now this is needed to thwart the fascist demise of our nation. Worse deals have been struck behind closed doors. This time it would be for the good of our country.

22. Trump gave Gaetz a get out of jail free card

Literally nothing can touch him as AG. If people try he could bring the full force of the DOJ down on them. In return Gaetz will just have to do Trump's bidding and prosecute his enemies on bogus charges. I suspect right now there are negotiations with House leaders to deliver that Ethics Committee report directly to Trump and no one else, who will bury it but also hold it over Gaetz's head as kompromat to make sure he follows orders.
