Trump does not want Gaetz as Atty General...

...although he would be pleased if he were confirmed.

The one person in the whole world that he thought would not be confirmed by the Republican Senate is Matt Gaetz. He is universally hated in the Republican Party.

Who he really wants is the next person he chooses after Gaetz.

In my opinion, he was trying to do Gaetz a favor. The Ethics Committee was getting ready for their verdict on Gaetz and he did not plan on being around much longer anyway.

But, if he was the AG, he could drop all investigations on himself and on Donald Trump. That would be the best of all worlds. But Trump does not expect that to happen.

It is his next choice that he wants as Attorney General.

Gaetz is of a similar mindset to the Convicted Felon, and like-minded people are drawn to each other. I could see a recess appointed Gaetz willing to go along with the persecutions of the Convicted Felon's "enemies".

Yeah, the Convicted Felon may be doing Gaetz a favor by using the AG nomination to deep six the House Ethics report so Gaetz can eventually run to become the next Autocrat, eh...Gubner of Floridastan unless DeeSantis pushes through that bill next year that allows him to run for a 3rd term.

First the nomination, Gaetz resigns his seat, Senate refuses to confirm, Republicans are now rid of him forever.

I suppose it's plausible, especially if the new chief of staff schemed it (I doubt Trump could compose a plan of more than 1 step).

No longer an annoyance to the GOP House. As long as he is not confirmed as AG, it is a good tactic on their part.

3. How do you figure? Why would Trump want to do Gaetz a favor?

Trump doesn't do favors unless there's something in it for him, and he always has managed to get the GOP Senate to do what he wants. By rescuing Gaetz Trump will own him completely, and by extension the DoJ.

4. Gaetz has ZERO chance of becoming AG

Frankly I'd be fine with it because he's an incompetents boob who has probably never actually practiced law. He would be a colossal failure.

His nomination will be dead by Monday. Unfortunately we are going to end up with someone just as horrid - but experienced and competent. A Bill Barr type.

9. No. It's too important a position to waste on an incompetent nitwit.

Dump is not going to start his term by pissing off GOP Senate. Not sure what's going on here but Gaetz as AG would be a gift to Dems. Someone will explain this to Dump.

Why do you think there is so much opposition to him from GOP? They don't care that Gaetz is a likely pedophile, they know that he will not be able to competently engage in the fuckery and cover ups that they need.

Gaetz shows every indication of being a sycophant, so he's as good as anyone else.

A "favor" from Trump is the same as a favor from any other mob boss...

experience and legal philosophies. They bored Trump.

Gaetz, on the other hand, talked about "cutting heads" and going after "the enemies within", which is exactly what Trump wants to hear.

We will have a person in charge of our 2 million strong military who couldn't manage an lemonade stand, and a person in charge of our intelligence who thinks Putin is a great guy, and a person in charge of our Justice Department who has never prosecuted a case, never run an organization larger than his campaign staff, never conducted an investigation, and who has no values other than "Me! Me! Me!"
