Hey GOP! No One Voted to Cut Social Security
by Alex Lawson | November 14, 2024 - 5:56am

snip//

Trump and Republicans will try to cut our earned benefits. But just as a grassroots movement of Americans around the country succeeded in saving the Affordable Care Act during Trump’s first term, we can save Social Security and Medicare.

Here’s how:

Hold Every Republican Accountable: Republicans will have only a slim majority in both the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. Every member of the House, and one-third of the Senate, is on the ballot in 2026. We will target every Republican in a competitive district with protests and billboards saying: Hands off our Social Security and Medicare!

Keep Democrats Unified: There’s nothing Republicans want more than bipartisan cover for benefit cuts. Democrats must stand united and refuse to give it to them. We are calling on every Democrat in Congress to stand strong against even one penny of cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Refuse To Go Behind Closed Doors: Republicans want to create a closed-door, fast-track commission to cut benefits without political accountability. We’ve beaten back this type of commission before, and we’re prepared to do so again. Any changes to Social Security must happen through regular Congressional order, in the light of day.

We are never going to stop fighting to protect and expand Social Security. Social Security has stood strong for nearly a century. It has survived wars, depressions, and pandemics. And with your help, it will survive Donald Trump.

One and it's purposely vague.

However, two of the paper's authors are virulent anti-SS.

My stock is bs. Boom years, I get pennies. Last month I lost $10,000 while stocks were "booming".

So to deflect attention from their blatant perfidy, they go after the old reliable and much better SS.

For my whole life, Republicons have been screaming that SS will go bankrupt several decades from now. Not happening. Meanwhile many of their must invest in companies have gone belly up.

SS will also pay for your non-working spouse after a certain age. Wall Street will not.

you are doing something very wrong. Frequent trading, trying to time the market, is always a losing strategy, and somehow I suspect that's what you are doing.

Buy good stocks/bonds/mutual funds, and don't sell other than to re-balance those. Or get a good advisor. I have one I've been with for some twenty years, and while I don't get huge returns from him, I do get steady returns, and lower losses during down times. I've also been able to increase my monthly income from the accounts he manages.

Trump is not only unpredictable but gutsy, and I'll bet he will try to stop midterms just to see if he can get away with it. I would think we'd still have some, at least in the blue states.

This should have been done decades ago.
Everyone should pay a fixed percenatge of their income into Social Security, regardless of how much they earn.
Funding problem fixed--forever.
