Inside the online offensive that turned out a new generation of men for Trump

Progressives, including many on this Board, dismissed the growing man-o-sphere echo chamber that has grown in the right, which caters to the resentment by men of the gains of women, particularly in areas such as enrollment in college where a majority of college graduates are now women.

This lack of awareness of this echo chamber is compounded by the outdates assumption that most people get their news and information from traditional media. On the Board, you still see people blaming the traditional media for failing to point out how unstable or racist Trump is, when that is all you hear when you read non-conservative media. Conversely, progressives have dismissed the growing population of social media influencers like Andrew Tate or Joe Rogan, who have millions of mostly male listeners. To them, Trump is a martyr for men who believe that the advancement of women is a threat to the success of men. These influencers push the idea that allegations of sexual misconduct are fabrications designed to oppress men like Trump, Johnny Depp, Sean Combs, and Matt Gaetz, and that successful are entitled to treat women not as people but as trophies. The question for progressives and women is how to communicate to the millions of young men who have fallen into the rabbit hole of misogynistic social media, because running commercials on TV and interviews on cable news just is not going to do it.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2024/11/10/trump-voters-gen-z-memes-podcasts-joe-rogan/

President-elect Donald Trump’s road back to the White House weaved through testosterone-fueled corners of the internet, breaking from the circuit of daytime talk shows and local radio broadcasts.

Trump flexed his arms with podcasting National Football League players and chatted about aliens with YouTube wrestler Logan Paul. He served the Nelk Boys Chick-fil-A on his private jet “Trump Force One,” calling the group of YouTube pranksters a “modern-day Johnny Carson.” He riffed on surviving a July assassination attempt with the four-man comedy team behind “Flagrant,” a raunchy podcast that promises to deliver “unruly hot takes directly to your dome piece.”

The resulting memes, TikTok posts and YouTube videos landed Trump millions of views online — part of a sprawling online strategy that gave him a direct line to a giant fan base of young American men.

While many political strategists once viewed this group as liberal by default, young men between the ages of 18 and 29 swung enormously for Trump, shifting rightward by eight percentage points since 2020, according to network exit polls.

1. Todd Golden cheered by Florida crowd in first game since sexual harassment accusations
Thu Nov 14, 2024, 12:09 AM

This is an example of the backlash to the me-too movement where women stand-up to sexual harassment is for men to rally behind sexual predators. So, instead of "me too," its men who have been groomed by social media to say "RIGHT ON!"

https://nypost.com/2024/11/11/sports/todd-golden-cheered-in-first-game-since-sexual-harassment-accusations/

Todd Golden seemed to receive a smattering of cheers and little to no boos from the Florida crowd during pregame introductions on Monday night.

The Gators men’s head basketball coach is under the microscope after The Alligator, the University of Florida’s independent student newspaper, first reported that Golden was facing a Title IX complaint over allegations of sexually harassing female students at the school.

Despite the disturbing allegations against Golden, he has been allowed to continue coaching the Gators and was on the bench on Monday for Florida’s game against Grambling State.
* * *
The school received the complaint on Sept. 27 and it included allegations that Golden had requested sexual favors and had sent photos and videos of his genitalia to current and former students on Instagram while traveling on university business. Another former student told The Alligator that Godlen had stalked her and sent her unsolicited images of his genitals.

Interviews of Elon Musk, JD Vance, and Trump, then normally tune into cable news giant Fox News. Yet, Progressives are stuck in the early 2000’s thinking that the key is more commercials on mainstream media or additional texts. Likewise, while progressives are happy to be keyboard warriors, you have the right wing base sending speakers to local school boards to change school curriculums to indoctrinate kids. How many folks on this board actually spoke in a public meeting, rather than just preaching to the choir that is DU?

…after all, Pete B goes on Fox News. Think about it, JD Vance looks like a weenie, yet he panders to the so called alpha male wannabe crowd.

I have posted for months on this Board that progressives were living in their own reality bubble based on facts and mainstream media convinced that there is no way that Trump would be elected. How many posts did we saying that the polls show that there was tight race were wrong and were being manufactured by mainstream media, because there is no way that the electorate could watch all that and vote for Trump. The problem is that mainstream media is dead. Long live influencers and social media, yet progressives still thought we were in the early 2000s and continued to obsess about and blame mainstream media like newspapers and TV news. How many people still subscribe to a print newspaper paper?

…rather the gamer, mma, weightlifting, gun shooting, how to score with the ladies crowd?

Now, progressives should not go on any overtly misogynistic shows like Andrew Tate, but progressives need to accept that traditional media is dead, and have to reach young men on the shows and platforms they now use.

AOC is probably the most prominent Democrat that naturally knows how to communicate in this new medium, but the real issue is not necessarily having politicians make appearances, though that helps, but to also more broadly communicate that the key to success for young men is not to act like a sexist jerk. Yes, some people act like entitled jerks and divas after they become successful, but acting like that on the way up will tend to ensure that you never become successful in the first place.

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-54630330

More than 400,000 viewers made it the third-highest peak on record for the the game-streaming platform.

She appealed to gamers to join her online “to get out the vote” ahead of the US election on 3 November.

But she faced some criticism for "electioneering".

One analyst said the stunt worked because "she’s a bit of a gamer".

...and the social media feed or recommendations of most young men. Most Americans are now unwitting slaves to proprietary social media algorithms, yet many on this Board continue to obsess about traditional TV news or news papers as though this was the early 2000s.

The funny thing is that many conservatives are also worried about the impact of social media on children, so there is some room for allies, but with Twitter's owner Musk having Trump's ear, any efforts to create warnings or disclosure about how social media works will not be successful.

And anyone could see how high-profile liberal accounts were being throttled by "Mr. Free Speech" while Trumper accounts were getting promoted. Sometime around September my own daily twitter feed went from zero to 25% MAGA, which was quite a feat because for years I went out of my way to block tens of thousands of Trumper accounts...

It's important to remember the two events that got Apartheid Clyde mad enough to start his "free speech" crusade: 1. The banning of Nazis and 2. The banning of pubic figures peddling blatant disinfo about COVID-19... Elmer also screeched for years that Twitter management shouldn't be "overtly political" but we see how quickly he conveniently forgot about that...

There may not be a solution, at least where Democrats try to use a similar tactic – it’s just not who we are.

And this may be unique to Trump – where in 2028 Republicans go back to business-as-usual campaigning, pressing the flesh on the rubber chicken circuit.

31. Look at the Philippines and Marcos's use of social media
Sat Nov 16, 2024, 01:46 AM

With social media and influencer culture and the decline of traditional media, candidates can’t completely avoid talking to actual journalists like Trump. There is no need. Instead, they can happily cater to influencers who have no obligation to adhere to any type of journalistic standards.

Yet, progressives are still living in the past blaming newspapers, which are dying, and TV news for ‘sane washing” Trump. Really? Trump’s racist MSG was pretty clear and 60 minutes was pretty clear that Trump ducked an interview.

The real problem is that traditional news media is in decline, and candidates like Trump see no need to interact with the media. Indeed, Trump can repeatedly go to social media outlets to complain about how he is being victimized by the establishment media. Worse, some progressives will echo Trump’s talking points attacking a free press.
