MSNBCs Lawrence ODonnell on Tuesday suggested Elon Musk had suffered a humiliating demotion at the hands of Donald Trump after the president-elect handed the billionaire a non-official governmental role.
Musk backed Trumps winning campaign to the tune of around $200 million.
But the theory that Elon Musk might become, in effect, a co-president or the real president, while Donald Trump in effect retires to a life of golfing, suffered a significant setback tonight when Donald Trump announced that he would give Elon Musk a job that does not exist and will last, at most, 18 months, said ODonnell.
Musk and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy were announced by Trump as the new heads of a Department of Government Efficiency tasked with routing public spending and red tape. Trump has given them until July 2026 to complete their mission.
That Trump gave Musk a working partner is the worst of all, said ODonnell, noting how Musk also had to share the press statement.

(10,599 posts)He's got plenty on his plate. He will make a boatload of $$$$$$ from whatever arrangement they have. I have no doubt that whatever role he is given, is one he has fully approved.
He has guaranteed government contracts for whatever he approaches T on. He will never be turned down, and I'm sure he's up there with the other T cronies who are granted their every wish.
Lawrence is like all the pundits and hosts who try to soften blows, and make viewers feel like it's all going to be fine in the end for us, and bad for them. Usually, it's the opposite. He gets real giddy about how this and that is the reality, when it's not. I get it, he has an hour to fill, and wants us to have hope, and believe in the best things happening, but they haven't, and whatever he's spouting now, will also turn out to be wrong.
I'm done with watching MSM, the pundits making their worthless predictions, and the politicians doing their little interviews. 8 days and counting.

(24,405 posts)Musk has been given free reign to remake the American economy to his own (and Trump's) liking. It will destroy and impoverish the rest of us.
As for there not being such a government post, that does not matter. With this announcement, Trump has signalled his approval for Musk to operate without interference.

(10,783 posts)that Elon Musk might be a little "needy". No?
And/Or maybe he's Putin's eyes and ears.
His behavior seems quite peculiar to me.
He needs to get some psychological counselling with all that money.

(52,382 posts)wasn't something Musk had ever talked about, and I'd guess he resents that.
I've been hoping for a struggle between Musk and Trump to start shattering that coalition.
