JERUSALEM (AP) Israeli soldiers rummaging through private homes in Gaza. Forces destroying plastic figurines in a toy store, or trying to burn food and water supplies in the back of an abandoned truck. Troops with their arms slung around each other, chanting racist slogans as they dance in a circle.

The dehumanization from the top is very much sinking down to the soldiers, said Dror Sadot, a spokeswoman for the Israeli human rights group BTselem, which has long documented Israeli abuses against Palestinians.

(42,033 posts)Everyone is not a "cheerleader" of this behavior. These soldiers will be disciplined. Others have been suspended for singing Hanukkah songs in a mosque, in direct violation of the IDF code of conduct.
Knee-jerk and hyperbolic reactions to every news story only serve to deepen divisions and cause even more divisiveness than already exists.

Previously, there are people that are interested in seeing from the two perspectives, said Khatib, who teaches international relations at Beir Zeit University in the West Bank. Now, each side is closed to its own narrative, its own information, rules, and perspective.

(10,988 posts)There are also hundreds of videos of West Bank soldiers arresting & dragging kids - some as young as 4 yrs old for throwing stones.
Another West Bank video - the soldiers with their guns pointed go to a school to get a
7 yr who threw stones. His teachers are verbally fighting with the soldiers and trying to use their bodies to protect the little kid.
Let alone all the horrific videos - where soldiers are shooting farmers and dragging old women out of their houses to give to settlers in the West Bank.

It looks like Yinon Magal must have deleted his post on X and FB (I looked all over for it).
It is captured and is on intsagram.

The main issue is English translations.
PBS says
"We know our slogan there are no people who are uninvolved."
Middle East Eye says:
"there are no "uninvolved civilians""
Yinon Magal posts exclusively in Hebrew. (I'm sure he is fluent in English), but some of the FB comments don't appear to translate into English very well. (Grammar etc)

(37,535 posts)Except Putin's soldiers rape children and break into houses to kill the occupants, stealing washing machines and cars, burning houses and destroying schools and hospitals on purpose.
I mean, if they'd just be like the Hamas protestors, blocking roads for a while before moving on, instead of committing the truly vile acts of verbiage and destroying things like toys. Oh, wait, the Russians pretty much are just like the Hamas "resisters".
Seriously. I get that we hold some people to higher standards--I guess at least some of us must think they must be somehow superior people (which is in fact quite a worse thing than verbiage out of hate and bitterness). But I no more defend Putin than I do Hamas--while admitting that Ukrainians and the IRF are not paragons of disinterested yet lethal virtue. For strong defend, you need strong commitment, and with that comes strong emotions.
The IDF soldiers were bad. But compared to Putin's and Haniyeh's men ...?
Now, while I believe there are "uninvolved civilians", there's https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/poll-shows-palestinians-back-oct-7-attack-israel-support-hamas-rises-2023-12-14/ .

Former US State Department official, Josh Paul, said Israel declared a charity a terrorist entity after it raised allegations about the rape of a 13-year-old boy in an Israeli prison. Paul made the comments while speaking with Christiane Amanpour on CNN on Monday.
According to Paul, the charitys allegations were believed to be credible by the State Department, who then passed them on to the Israeli government. Israel then responded by raiding the charitys offices, taking their computers and labelling them a terrorist entity.
The former State Department official resigned in October over moral objections to the US deciding to transfer arms to Israel during its assault on Gaza.'

(143 posts)Hundreds of women have documented their rape by Hamas terrorists. Any videos of IDF doing this? Pictures of Israeli babies cooked in ovens by Hamas.
There are videos of Hammas terror cells fighting the IDF soldiers from the Hammas base in a UN school classroom. There are also videos of Hammas command headquarters under the biggest hospital There are many videos showing rockets trajectory from hospitals and schools in Gaza into Israel. Hammas KNOWS that this makes schools and hospitals LEGITIMATE MILITARY TARGETS. Any videos of IDF using children as human shields like Hammas does?
