HRC's run showed us that gender still matters, to some to many people in virtually every voter demographic.
The election after the "year of the woman" there was a distinct pattern of some "Progressives" enthusiastically hoping to primary women Democrats (some just elected!) to replace them with minority males. In GA some black men who'd voted for Obama preferred a very hostile! white male Republican to a black woman who promised to represent them. On and on, examples every election.
That's just for one thing, there are others, but it's a BIG, basic one she can't trick people into missing. And in this era, white Christian male nationalism is on the rise on the right.
