I am pleased with Earl G and Elad's position on posting Twitter links and their sentiment toward Elon.


If you like your Twitter, you can keep your Twitter
DUers are somewhat divided on whether we should continue to allow Twitter embeds in DU posts. However, the Admin position is that the tweets people bring to DU are generally useful and so we have no plans to get rid of the feature at this time. That said, we did make it so that embedded tweets on DU4 still have the old bird logo, because fuck Elon Musk.

DU4 is the latest evolution of the website. It has some tweaks to existing features and some new ones. It's in beta testing mode for a couple of weeks and then will be launched for all DUers in early September.

Although, there are a limited number of instances that are allowed for embedding (we tried to pick a selection of the big ones).

As for Threads embedding, it's something we'll look into if people think it would be useful.

Musk can try to relabel it in whatever fatuous way he wants, it's still Twitter.

It may be creaking at the seams sometimes after whateverthehellnext his ketamine-addled brain has just cooked up to troll its users and various onlookers, but it still has a vast body of positive, informative and progessive users worldwide who keep up a high standard of content that just doesn't exist elsewhere on any alternative, and the almost daily predictions here of its imminent demise show no signs of fulfilling the wishful thinking of its most vocal opponents.

That progressive population forms a substantial resistance to Musk, and I'm in solidarity with them. They built it, he just bought it without understanding its value, which evidently isn't monetary.

And whatever crap some DUers may throw at Twitter - most often the most vociferous about it don't or have hardly ever used or visited it - it's never going to be as vitriolic or inventive as what gets launched Musk's way on Twitter on a daily basis.
