17. Well, what she wrote does sound familiar. Everything she touches loses and she whines about it.

The secrecy sleeve for paper ballots is intended to keep your vote secret from everyone else - including the election workers. (Anytime a vote is visible there are supposed to be two election workers present - one Republican and one Democrat).

So I went up to the ballot reader today and the single election worker instructed me to take my ballot out of the secrecy sleeve to feed it into the machine.

I politely declined and explained the purpose of the secrecy sleeve - and how machines are designed to pull the ballot out of the sleeve so that it is never exposed to the election worker.

Unfortunately, the new ballot readers are not capable of handling secrecy sleeves properly. You have to expose fully half of your ballot in order to read the intake rollers, and you have to shove it pretty hard to get it to read - and then it yanks very quickly. I managed to hold onto the secrecy sleeve - but there must have been enough resistance to prevent it from reading properly. So I had to feed it a second time. I fed it without the secrecy sleeve this time and it read. But the person ahead of me had an error code the election worker had never seen and had to refeed hers, as well.

If the ballot reader requires removing the secrecy sleeve to feed the ballot in, it requires two (opposite party) workers to be posted at the reader. I'll be taking this up with the president of the BOE in my county (a friend of mine), as well as the voter protection group.

(Pretty sure the problems were also reported on NPR.)

And consider just how effective, popular and respected Sarah Palin is these days. Then she should STFU.
