General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI expect to see violence at some point by Trump supporters.
It will not be a single large attack like the one against the Capitol on J6. It will be individual acts of violence in various locations. Maybe some assassination attempts on Democratic leaders or their families. Maybe some infrastructure damage like destroying power stations.
In other words, acts of domestic terrorism. They are harder to defend against and to trace and prosecute.
If Trump supporters carry out terrorist acts as a reaction to the charges that Trumo faces, when are they most likely to do it?
Will it be when the J6 related indictments are announced?
Or the fake elector charges in Georgia if they inckude Trump?
What is likely to be the event that pushes them over the edge? The start of the J6 trial in DC?
Or will they protest peacefully during the trial, but turn feral when a jury convicts him?

(7,215 posts)These are the unstable that key cares because of stickers, steal signs, but the minority of those are dangerous and will do something because they are stupid and have zero to lose.
Hopefully the justice department is all over this by now.

(11,780 posts)But I doubt anything like attacks on infrastructure, just the same sort of people and stuff that goes on now, maybe amped up a little. I could see a mass shooting though not sure whod they target. Its hard to predict crazy actions because they are performed by crazy people.

(2,355 posts)All of them. Unless they are massed in safe spaces, but unfortunately, thats not limited to trump supporters, thats just crowd dynamics.

(38,013 posts)and not coordinated like Jan 6. The Oath Keepers and Proud Boys are somewhat off balance with recent convictions.
More likely I see isolated incidents of violence...I don't think we'll see Meal Team Six show up in force.

(32,133 posts)Joe is in charge of the federal government....Trump will lose by 12m votes and he won't have the DOJ challenging the results. But, if Republicans try to steal the election, the DOJ will be ready to protect the vote.

(2,493 posts)the day. A good indicator is the last indictments, there really wasn't that big of crowds gathered.

(22,951 posts)They are no match for law enforcement or the national guard, but there will be more than a few body bags if it something actually erupts.

(24,983 posts)... already tried this on Jan 6 and are now either in jail, indicted, or hiding from an expected indictment.

(100,133 posts)Trump is a stochastic terrorist, and so are his media acolytes on FOX. We have low-grade domestic terrorism going on all the time now.

(53,193 posts)They know that a bunch of people who responded to Trump's last call for violence lost their guns and voting rights. They REALLY don't want that to happen to them, so I figure they'll just do minor shit like paint homophobic slogans on people's garage doors.

(4,002 posts)You'll see idiots like the MagaBomber. I don't see anything organized. The real danger is the extremists. It'll be lone wolf sort of stuff. I'd expect more targeted stuff like the Buffalo supermarket shooting or the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting. It'll be the racist stuff. Timothy McVeigh territory. That's where it could get bad.

(26,009 posts)But, Trump does announce his intentions ahead of time and people have not taken it seriously before.
I expected violence after the 2020 election, instigated by Trump, because several times during his term he had made comments about staying in office. Then there was his "stand back and stand by " message to his militia thugs.
Ruth Ben Ghiat, the expert in authoritarian leaders and their takeover of democracies, has warned that they learn from their mistakes and adjust for them. I'm sure that when Hitler was in prison after his Beer Hall Putsch, people thought that was the end of him politically, too.
So I don't think that we can be complacent about the potential for violence. The only question in my mind is, How serious and widespread will it be? Trump said that he was disappointed in the caliber of people who showed up at the Capitol, so in the 4 years since then, he could have arranged for a better trained and organized group to back him when called upon. After all, Trump's Secretary of Education, Betsy De Vos, is the sister of Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater.

(35,820 posts)He was indicted and nothing really happened. His supporters are home sitting in their recliners, yelling at their wives, kids and pets and drinking something other than bud lite!

(18,060 posts)but the MAGAt's don't have wide support in the population, and these assholes can see what's happened so far with the J6 insurrectionists and most will just continue to sit in their homes and type away on their favorite website bemoaning what they perceive as injustices by the US Govt.
The vast majority of these MAGAt's are cowards and will either run away or give up at the first round whistling past their heads.
