Remembering how WWI wiped out an entire generation of young men in some nations. My aunt never married, the big initial reason was that; she was 18 when the war ended.

This is a comparison of the Russia vs U.S. population age pyramid as of 2020, before things got even worse for Russia. The prognosis was already grim, the largest group in their 40s with still years of work ahead but followed by smaller groups with no way to reproduce enough to support all the aging older cohorts. And even with Russia's declining health system, in future people won't be dying off as soon as in the past.

Due to immigration, the U.S. is in good shape for the future, better than most advanced nations.



Btw, this is a projected world population pyramid through 2100. It shows how much longer humans are living and also that for now reproduction globally is keeping pace with need to support long lives.
