Trump posts letter demanding Merrick Garland meeting over 'outrageous and unlawful' investigations
Former President Donald Trump posted to his Truth Social platform on Tuesday evening, showing a copy of a letter from his attorneys John Rowley and Jim Trusty, demanding a meeting with Attorney General Merrick Garland over the federal investigations being conducted by special counsel Jack Smith.
"We represent Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, in the investigation currently being conducted by the Special Counsel's Office," the attorneys wrote. "Unlike President Biden, his son Hunter, and the Biden family, President Trump is being treated unfairly. No President of the United States has ever, in the history of our country, been baselessly investigated in such an outrageous and unlawful fashion."
"We request a meeting at your earliest convenience to discuss the ongoing injustice that is being perpetrated by your Special Counsel and his prosecutors," they concluded.

(130,538 posts)Lawyers don't write crap like that to other lawyers, especially lawyers representing a client in a criminal case writing to a prosecutor. Garland will blow them off anyhow, since the case is being handled by the Special Counsel with no involvement of the AG. That's why there is a special counsel in the first place, and Garland won't let them try to do an end run around Jack Smith - especially with that industrial-strength bullshit.

Maybe his lawyers are as inept as he is.

He understands he is in deep shit in the stolen document prosecution so he is;
1. Getting his unwashed Magats riled up that DOJ is preventing him from becoming president.
2. Related to #1, he is going to fund raise off the indictment.
3. He is going to appeal to an institutionalist AG who has stated that he will not be partisan.
4. When Garland doesn't meet with him he will accuse him of being partisan.

Except instead of the crowd with stones he's facing the DOJ -- they have more patience and are less distractable by John Cleese.

(4,741 posts)Then you'd have a point. Yes, typical, and yeah, at this point, same old same old.
This time, though, the fool had it put in writing to the judicial system as an official act of jurisprudence.
That tends to make a big difference in many things, and not in his favor.

(8,103 posts)They're screwing with what they suspect is an impending indictment in an attempt to delay it. They just don't know when it is coming down.
What in the world could they say to Garland to dissuade him from indictment? Threaten him? Fish for info on what the prosecution's approach will be?
I hope Garland laughs it off. Garland needs to think about whether he will abide by some unwritten rule that DOJ made up, or do his duty for the country.
He shouldn't bother with a meeting, in my opinion. Everything should happen inside court. The optics of such a meeting would be very bad.
