North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the states first Black lieutenant governor and the GOP front-runner for the 2024 gubernatorial race, repeatedly lambasted the so-called 1960s civil rights movement, lamenting that so many freedoms were lost during the civil rights movement.
In a CNN KFile review of his media appearances over the last five years, Robinson baselessly claimed that the civil rights movement was a communist plot to subvert capitalism and used to subvert free choice and where you go to school and things like that.
So many things were lost during the civil rights movement. So many freedoms were lost during the civil rights movement. They shouldnt have been lost, Robinson said in a March 2018 podcast episode.
Robinson made many of the comments on the podcast Politics and Prophecy with host Chris Levels on Freedomizer Radio, a station whose slogan says Freedomists Freedomizing Freedom. Levels is a conspiracy theorist who has shared 9/11 truther posts on Facebook, called the Olympics an illuminati event from Satan and shared posts saying Jews control nearly everything in society.

I despise CNN as most do on DU but felt this was important to post. There is a lot to unpack here least of all the poor people of North Carolina with a man like this running for Governor of the state.

(16,698 posts)I realize that Jesse may be getting to old for this, but I'd love to see Robinson tell Jesse what was wrong with the civil rights movement. To bad John Lewis isn't still alive to tell him while sitting there with the scar on his scull.

As for that horrible cretin from NC, surely there are sufficient sane NC "R's" to prevent him from getting the nomination? An oxymoron, of course, but???
