(32,390 posts)Most employers just want workers to be docile
robots. And employers are about as supportive as a string of cooked spaghetti.
I work in a healthcare setting and I am one of probably 15ish people with advanced degrees. We are given no opportunity to acquire more knowledge and skills (no, one day seminars are not advanced training) and are treated like we are freshman in college. They want to hand us a manual and have us work our way through it. Problem solving? We aren't even consulted. An intelligent high school graduate could do my job as they want it done. Instead they've got Master's and doctoral level people. Some people leave, some remain but check out, some stay and bang their heads against the wall until they can't take it anymore. Truth is, leaving is not much of a solution, unless you get lucky. Wherever you go will be the same story. I know, I've worked at those other places too.
