"SNIP........
A new Emerson College poll finds Donald Trump leading the Republican presidential primary with 62%, followed by Ron DeSantis at 16%.
No other candidate reaches double digits.

(17,757 posts)It will be either that or DeSantis will have to decide if he wants to replace Rick Goddamn Scot, or Marcus Aurelius Rubio.

(2,020 posts)The idea of four more years of Trump would honestly sink me into a horrible depression.
But I am not convinced Biden/Harris can beat a younger candidate due to Biden's age and our country's sexism issues, proven when Hillary ran in 2016. I think a rematch between Biden/Trump is the best shot we have of keeping the WH.

(2,020 posts)I think it would be close, unfortunately, due to the electoral college. The base would be rabid for him. But I think there are enough sane Americans in the middle who do not want a repeat of his four years who would hopefully give it to Biden.

(2,020 posts)Zero chance of that happening or of them staying home even if they are disappointed DeSantis is the nominee. Do you see democrats deciding they'll vote for Trump just because they're disappointed Biden is running again? Of course not.
The ones we need to worry about are Independents. That's who it's all going to come down to. We're never going to change the minds of dems or republicans in this polarized climate. I think Independents will vote for Biden over the clusterf-- possibility of another 4 years of Trump. I am nervous that when presented with DeSantis... versus an 86 year old president... those are two choices no one likes and I don't know how they will vote.
Trump on the ticket may be our best chance of retaining the White House even if it means I don't get any sleep until the votes are counted.

(108,782 posts)If that happens. If Trump or Desantis wins in 2024, we have to be prepared that they will commit some absolutely unspeakable crimes against humanity which will include mass murder, mass imprisonment, public executions, basically anything short of committing genocide. Though we have to assume even that's on the table. They're that bloodthirsty and reckless and drunk with power.

(7,733 posts)they are channeling their desire for his replacement to be at least as disgustingly bad as the original.

(5,104 posts)I think Biden would beat other Republicans--as well--but he's beaten Trump once, Trump is less popular today (even with his "base), and most Americans are sick of him.
In contrast, Joe Biden has been an excellent president. I'd welcome the rematch.

(1,983 posts)Trump, who seems to be completely unhinged, or DeSantis, who is hinged but incredibly petty and gleefully cruel.
